Fundamental study of smart tire system
2006 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference, 2006This study analyzes a system for measuring six force components acting between a tire and the road surface, by determining strains in the wheel-tire module. The measurement method was developed on the basis of the least squares method, and dynamic tests were carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method.

A “Smart Tire” System for Tire/Road Friction Estimation
ASME 2008 Dynamic Systems and Control Conference, Parts A and B, 2008In this paper, we present the development of a tire deformation sensing system that can provide the critical information for estimation of tire/road interaction for mobile robots and vehicles. Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-based sensor is designed and fabricated to embed on the inner tread surface to measure the rubber tread deformation.

A ‘smart tire’ for estimating the tire force and the extents of the influences of specific factors
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering, 2017This paper describes an intelligent device for detection of the mechanical characteristics of a tire and its test method. When deformation of the operating tire occurs, by tracking the displacements of fluorescent marker points with a camera, a neural network algorithm is applied to obtain the tire forces.

Vibration energy harvesting technology for smart tire monitoring
Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2019A smart tire monitoring system uses tire information, such as temperature, pressure, acceleration, force, tire-road friction coefficient, in real time to monitor the driving safety of cars. A vibration energy harvester for a smart tire monitoring system converts the tire dynamic strain energy into electrical energy which is the power source of the ...
