Plasmochromic Modules for Smart Windows

open access: yesJournal of Facade Design and Engineering, 2023
Active glazing components, which can dynamically regulate incoming solar radiation, are particularly interesting, as they simultaneously impact multiple aspects, such as thermal and visual comfort and overall energy consumption. Near-infrared EC windows (also referred to as “plasmochromic”) enable selective spectral control of the incoming solar ...

Longitudinal Changes in Adiposity After a Youth Sport‐Related Knee Injury: Informing Posttraumatic Osteoarthritis Prevention

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Youth who experience a sport‐related knee injury have elevated odds of becoming overweight or developing obesity in 3 to 10 years, compounding their risk for posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA). To inform prevention strategies, this study compared patterns of adiposity change between youth with a sport‐related knee injury and uninjured youth ...

Enhanced Thermochromic Properties of Vanadium Dioxide (VO2)/Glass Heterostructure by Inserting a Zr-Based Thin Film Metallic Glasses (Cu50Zr50) Buffer Layer

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
Vanadium dioxide (VO2) with reversible metal–insulator transition (MIT) is one of the most promising energy-efficient materials. Especially for VO2-based smart windows, the visible transmittance and solar modulation ability are the most critical ...

Selective Solar Harvesting Windows for Full‐Spectrum Utilization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2022
Smart windows can selectively regulate excess solar radiation to reduce heating and cooling energy consumption in the built environment. However, the inevitable dissipation of ultraviolet and near‐infrared into waste heat results in inefficient solar ...

Refractive Index Modulation for Metal Electrodeposition-Based Active Smart Window Applications

open access: yesMicromachines
One of the remarkable choices for active smart window technology is adopting a metal active layer via reversible metal electrodeposition (RME). As the metal layer efficiently blocks the solar energy gain, even a hundred-nanometer-thick scale, RME-based ...

Molecular Dynamics Studies of Shape Memory Polymers: From Bead–Spring Models to Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.
