ESG Performance and Credit Risk: Evidence From Chinese Manufacturing Companies

open access: yesInternational Journal of Finance &Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates the effect of corporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance on credit risk using a sample of manufacturing firms listed on China's Shanghai and Shenzhen A‐share markets from 2009 to 2021. Employing fixed effects, the generalised method of moments, and instrumental variable models, we find that ...

The Potential of Recycling the High-Zinc Fraction of Upgraded BF Sludge to the Desulfurization Plant and Basic Oxygen Furnace

open access: yesMetals, 2018
In ore-based steelmaking, blast furnace (BF) dust is generally recycled to the BF via the sinter or cold-bonded briquettes and injection. In order to recycle the BF sludge to the BF, the sludge has to be upgraded, removing zinc.

Does Palsa Thaw in Northern Finland Contribute to Remobilisation of Metals Accumulated in Peat Into Surface Waters?

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Permafrost is rapidly degrading in the sporadic zone, including palsa mires in Scandinavia. Peatlands in the area have likely accumulated heavy metals from atmospheric deposition of industrial contaminants in the wider region. As the palsa mire chemical composition is not well known, and in other permafrost regions the permafrost thaw may ...

Isothermal Kinetic Mechanism of Coke Dissolving in Hot Metal

open access: yesMetals, 2019
The carburization of molten iron is close to saturation in the blast furnace process, while that in the flash ironmaking process is uncertain because there is no pressure from solid charge and no carburization reactions occurring between the deadman and ...

Characteristics, properties and limitations of per‐ or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) and fluoropolymers

open access: yesPolymer International, EarlyView.
An overview and categorization of man‐made per‐ or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) including low‐molar‐mass and high‐molar‐mass fluorochemicals, and their international regulations is presented. Though certain PFASs are toxic, bioaccumulative and cross the human cellular membranes, others, such as fluoropolymers, are safe, reliable and involved in ...

Exchangeable lead (Pb) in lowland paddy soils of Sri Lanka as affected by the differences in agro‐climatic zones, soil orders, and water sources

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Lead (Pb) accumulation in the human body poses serious health risks. As rice is the staple food in Sri Lanka, with a high per capita intake (114 kg), there is a significant risk of Pb transfer through rice consumption. This study evaluated exchangeable Pb concentrations in soils and produced Pb distribution maps.

Rhizosphere microbial detoxification and phosphorus solubilization drive ecological remediation of Pb–Zn contaminated soils

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Heavy metal contamination of soils poses a serious threat to ecosystem health and food security worldwide. This study investigated how native plants, such as Artemisia annua and Buddleja davidii, interact with soil microbes in Pb–Zn waste slag areas. We found that these plants stimulate microbes, which improve phosphorus availability and reduce metal ...
