Tremor on smiling [PDF]

open access: possibleMovement Disorders, 2009
AbstractFacial tremor occurring on smiling is a rare phenomenon and has been described (to the best of our knowledge) in the literature only once. We describe two patients who presented with a bilateral facial tremor that occurred only on smiling and other activation of therisorii muscles and had a high frequency of 9 Hz.

An asymmetric smile [PDF]

open access: possibleNature Chemistry, 2021
The formation of all-carbon quaternary centres is a challenging problem in organic chemistry, with far-reaching implications for functional molecule discovery. Now an inventive solution has been developed, using sulfinamides as traceless linkers for an asymmetric radical Truce–Smiles rearrangement.

Riding on the Smiles [PDF]

open access: possibleSSRN Electronic Journal, 2010
Using a data set of vanilla options on the major indexes we investigate the calibration properties of several multi-factor stochastic volatility models by adopting the fast Fourier transform as the pricing methodology. We study the impact of the penalizing function on the calibration performance and how it affects the calibrated parameters. We consider

Smile Big or Not? Effects of Smile Intensity on Perceptions of Warmth and Competence

, 2016
While previous works suggest the positive impact of smiles on interpersonal perceptions, this research proposes and finds that smile intensity differentially affects two fundamental dimensions of social judgments—warmth and competence.

Smiles that reveal, smiles that conceal

Shakespeare, 2015
This article analyses the dramatic functions of the smile in Shakespeare's plays as a facial gesture which can either reveal what a character is thinking, or conceal feelings. It is at its most theatrically complex in Twelfth Night as a thematic and structural element, and Malvolio's smiling is the most extended example.
