Effect of Smoking on Gastric Acid Secretion
Australian and New Zealand Journal of Medicine, 1973Summary: The effect of smoking on gastric acid secretion was studied in 16 smokers and 16 non-smokers. The basal, smoking, and peak acid outputs were determined. Statistical analysis showed the following results: No significant difference was found between the mean basal acid output and mean smoking acid output, in both smokers and non-smokers.

In the trucking section of South Philadelphia the air is often heavily loaded with combustion products from great industrial plants, railroad engines, and other sources. The soils of this region, consisting of Sassafras loam, are somewhat acid but not more so than another area of the same soil type at Monmouth Junction, New Jersey, where there is ...

Folic acid, Vitamin B12, and homocysteine in smoking and non-smoking pregnant women
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology, 2002Lower plasma levels of vitamins may result in hyperhomocysteinemia, a known risk factor in pregnancy. As smoking may alter nutrition, we were interested in its effect on folate and Vitamin B(12) in pregnancy.A cross-sectional study of 62 smoking and 76 non-smoking healthy pregnant women. Serum folic acid, Vitamin B(12) and homocysteine were measured at

Citric Acid Aerosol As a Potential Smoking Cessation Aid
Chest, 1987We tested the ability of a citric acid aerosol to simulate the tracheal sensations produced by cigarette smoke and to satisfy smokers' desire for cigarettes. Fifteen smokers rated puffs from their own brand of cigarette, citric acid aerosol, a low tar and nicotine cigarette, and air.

Clinical evaluation of a citric acid inhaler for smoking cessation
Drug and Alcohol Dependence, 1993In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of a hand-held inhaler as an adjunct to a smoking cessation behavioral program. The inhaler delivered a citric acid aerosol with tobacco smoke flavor. Seventy-four smokers were recruited for a 3-week smoking cessation trial.

Effect of Cigarette Smoking on Duodenogastric Reflux of Bile Acids*
Australian and New Zealand Journal of Medicine, 1981Abstract: The possibility that smoking induces duodenogastric reflux was examined in 13 healthy male volunteers. Gastric juice was aspirated for four consecutive 20‐minute periods, and reflux quantitated by measuring total bile acids (TBA), chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) and glycocholic acid (GCA) in the juice.

Development of a citric acid aerosol as a smoking cessation aid
Drug and Alcohol Dependence, 1990The satisfaction derived from smoking depends not only on the pharmacological effects of nicotine but also the sensory stimulation from smoke inhalation, particularly the tracheal 'scratch'. In a previous study, we found that a citric acid aerosol produces a tracheal 'scratch' and provides some of the same satisfaction as cigarette smoke.

Influence of cigarette smoking on the risk of acid pulmonary aspiration
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, 1987Twenty‐five non‐smokers and 35 smokers who had abstained overnight from cigarette smoking and were undergoing minor elective orthopaedic surgery were studied in order to compare gastric volume and pH. There was no significant difference in aspirated volume and pH both just after intubation and prior to extubation between the two groups, thus indicating

Cigarette smoking, gastric acidity and peptic ulceration
Digestive Diseases and Sciences, 1990The influence of cigarette smoking on intragastric acidity was assessed in duodenal ulcer patients in symptomatic remission and in healthy volunteers in a retrospective study. Continuous 24-hr pH recordings in 150 nonsmokers and 174 smokers receiving placebo treatment were compared.

[THE LEVEL OF FORMIС ACID IN TOBACCO SMOKE].
Georgian medical news, 2018Evaluation of the level of contamination of environment by specific components of tobacco smoke (ambient and indoor level of Formic Acid) consider the volume and physico-chemical space parameters of the "passive smokers" location. By method of gasliquid capillary chromatography the content of Formic acid in the air samples of Tobacco Smoke was revealed.
