Smoke Plume Trajectory Modeling
Spill Science and Technology Bulletin, 2003Abstract A combination of numerical modeling and large-scale experimentation has yielded a tremendous amount of information about the structure, trajectory and composition of smoke plumes from large crude oil fires. A numerical model, a large outdoor fire plume trajectory (ALOFT), has been developed at NIST to predict the downwind concentration of ...

Volatile Organic Compound-Based Predictive Modeling of Smoke Taint in Wine [PDF]
Smoke taint in wine has become a critical issue in the wine industry due to its significant negative impact on wine quality. Data-driven approaches including univariate analysis and predictive modeling are applied to a data set containing concentrations ...

A Multidimensional Model of Cigarette Smoking
American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, 1976Abstract This paper outlines a multidimensional model for conceptualizing and treating cigarette smoking and for integrating a variety of research findings. Three main components are included in the model. The first is the cognitive component which includes personal and social attitudes related to smoking and beliefs about the effects of smoking. Next,

A murine model of smoke inhalation
American Journal of Physiology-Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology, 2001The United States has one of the world's largest per capita fire death rates. House fires alone kill >9,000 Americans annually, and smoke inhalation is the leading cause of mortality from structural fires. Animal models are needed to develop therapies to combat this problem.

Modeling, Coffee Drinking, and Smoking
Psychological Reports, 1980The relative effects of coffee and modeling on cigarette smoking were examined for 30 undergraduate smokers. Smoking rate was not significantly influenced by either coffee or modeling. These results are discussed in relation to previous research which has demonstrated effects for both variables.

A measurement model of adolescent smoking
Addictive Behaviors, 1994Self report measures of smoking may contain substantial measurement error. If these errors are nonrandom, then they may be correlated with substantive variables in epidemiologic or intervention studies, thus confounding and biasing estimates of structural relations. In efforts to circumvent such bias, investigators have supplemented questionnaires with

A situation-specific model for smoking behavior
Addictive Behaviors, 1978Abstract Ratings of common cigarette smoking situations were analyzed to develop a model of smoking behavior consistent with behavioral intervention techniques. Mean intensity of urge was rated for each of 63 smoking situations by 177 males and 154 females drawn from the general population. Multivariate analyses of the data revealed distinct response

Two lines of psychological research have attempted to spell out the stages of adolescent smoking initiation. The first has focused on behavioral stages of smoking initiation, while the second line emphasized motivational stages.A large international sample of European adolescents (N = 10,170, mean age = 13.3 years) was followed longitudinally.
