Smoothness of the Policy Function in Discrete Time Economic Models

Econometrica, 1991
Summary: The theory applying to dynamic programming has furnished a useful set of techniques for the analysis of many types of sequential models. This theory, however, has not yielded heretofore much information about the differentiability properties of optimal solutions.

Automatic Smoothing of Regression Functions in Generalized Linear Models

Journal of the American Statistical Association, 1986
Abstract We consider the penalized likelihood method for estimating nonparametric regression functions in generalized linear models (Nelder and Wedderburn 1972) and present a generalized cross-validation procedure for empirically assessing an appropriate amount of smoothing in these estimates.

Parallel Bootstrap and Optimal Subsample Lengths in Smooth Function Models

Communications in Statistics - Simulation and Computation, 2016
Parallel bootstrap is an extremely useful statistical method with good performance. In the present study, we introduce a working correlation matrix on the method, which is called parallel bootstrap matrix. We consider some properties of it and the optimal size of the subsample in smooth function models.

Block Motion Model for Optical Flow with Smoothness Prior Function

2006 9th International Conference on Control, Automation, Robotics and Vision, 2006
An explicit constraint is introduced into the Lucas-Kanade gradient based block motion model. This constraint helps the estimation process to consider surrounding motion vectors during its calculation. Consequently a better motion field can be produced than that by the original block motion model.

Smooth Nonlinear Complementarity Function Based Dynamic Modelling of Power Market

2006 3rd International Conference on Electrical and Electronics Engineering, 2006
In order to accurately model the game behaviors of market participants with bounded rationality in power market, this paper proposes the Cournot game dynamic model with bounded rationality considering transmission constraints, which is represented by the discrete difference equations involving the maximization problem of the social benefit of market ...

Uniformly consistent confidence intervals under smooth function models

2012
It has been found, under a smooth function model setting, that the conventional bootstrap is inconsistent at stationary points of the smooth function and that the m out of n bootstrap succeeds in restoring consistency, provided that a correct convergence rate can be specified of the plug-in smooth function estimator. We re-investigate the properties of

Smoothing globally continuous piecewise functions based on limiting functions for device compact modeling

Journal of Computational Electronics, 2019
This paper generalizes a smoothing method for globally continuous piecewise functions based on limiting functions, with and without considering symmetry. The resulting function is infinitely differentiable. The method uses an upper limiting function, a lower limiting function, and a both-side limiting function.
