Wavelet Estimation of Function Derivatives from a Multichannel Deconvolution Model
This paper considers a multichannel deconvolution model with Gaussian white noises. The goal is to estimate the d-th derivatives of an unknown function in the model.

Various level‐set methods have been suggested for segmenting images with intensity inhomogeneity as local region‐based models. The challenge in these methods is segmenting the inhomogeneous images with smooth edges.

Factor-augmented Smoothing Model for Functional Data
We propose modeling raw functional data as a mixture of a smooth function and a highdimensional factor component. The conventional approach to retrieving the smooth function from the raw data is through various smoothing techniques. However, the smoothing model is not adequate to recover the smooth curve or capture the data variation in some situations.

Contemporaneous-threshold smooth transition GARCH models [PDF]
This paper proposes a contemporaneous-threshold smooth transition GARCH (or C-STGARCH)model for dynamic conditional heteroskedasticity. The C-STGARCH model is a generalization tosecond conditional moments of the contemporaneous smooth transition ...

A general cubic spline smooth semi-supervised support vector machine
This article is focused on the non-smooth problem of the semi-supervised support vector machine optimization model. A smooth semi-supervised support vector machine model was established. A general cubic spline function with 2 times differentiable at zero

Control from Signal Temporal Logic Specifications with Smooth Cumulative Quantitative Semantics [PDF]
We present a framework to synthesize control policies for nonlinear dynamical systems from complex temporal constraints specified in a rich temporal logic called Signal Temporal Logic (STL).

Conditional Models for Non-smooth Ranking Loss Functions [PDF]
Learning to rank is an important area at the interface of machine learning, information retrieval and Web search. The central challenge in optimizing various measures of ranking loss is that the objectives tend to be non-convex and discontinuous. To make such functions amenable to gradient based optimization procedures one needs to design clever bounds.

Quasi-periodic spatiotemporal models of brain activation in single-trial MEG experiments [PDF]
Magneto-encephalography (MEG) is an imaging technique which measures neuronal activity in the brain. Even when a subject is in a resting state, MEG data show characteristic spatial and temporal patterns, resulting from electrical current at specific ...

Smooth orientation-dependent scoring function for coarse-grained protein quality assessment
Motivation Protein quality assessment (QA) is a crucial element of protein structure prediction, a fundamental and yet open problem in structural bioinformatics. QA aims at ranking predicted protein models to select the best candidates.
