Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Bayesian inference of a smooth transition dynamic almost ideal model of food demand in the US [PDF]

open access: yes
A dynamic ‘smooth transition’ Almost Ideal model is estimated for food consumption in the US. A Metropolis-Hastings algorithm is employed to map the posterior distributions and rejection sampling is used to evaluate and impose curvature restrictions at ...

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...

Choice of Aggregate Demand Proxy and its Affect on Phillips Curve Nonlinearity: U.S. Evidence [PDF]

open access: yes
Using nonlinearity testing and modeling associated with the smooth transition regression model we examine how the choice of aggregate demand proxy affects, if at all, the nonlinearity of the Phillips curve.

Multimodal Mechanical Testing of Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V Lattice Structures: Compression, Bending, and Fatigue

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this experimental study, the mechanical properties of additively manufactured Ti‐6Al‐4V lattice structures of different geometries are characterized using compression, four point bending and fatigue testing. While TPMS designs show superior fatigue resistance, SplitP and Honeycomb lattice structures combine high stiffness and strength. The resulting

Testing Nonlinearity: Decision Rules for Selecting between Logistic and Exponential STAR Models. [PDF]

open access: yes
A new LM specification procedure to choose between Logistic and Exponential Smooth Transition Autoregressive (STAR) models is introduced. The new decision rule has better properties than those previously available in the literature when the model is ...

Threshold effects of inflation on growth in the ASEAN-5 countries: a Panel Smooth Transition Regression approach

open access: yes, 2015
The relationship between inflation and economic growth is a contentious issue. The present study is undertaking to test hypothesis that the relationship between inflation and economic growth is nonlinear.

Laser Metal Deposition of Aluminum Alloys 7075 and 5083 with the Addition of Volatile Alloying Elements through Powder Blending

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser metal deposition of aluminum alloys EN AW‐7075 and EN AW‐5083, using powder blending to compensate zinc and magnesium evaporation. In situ alloying and ex situ alloying with ZnAl12 and AZ91 preserve near‐standard compositions and improve mechanical properties.
