A sedimentation test to measure heat stability of milk protein beverages

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science
: A small-scale oil bath immersion-heating system using sealed stainless-steel process tubes was developed that has the flexibility to evaluate a wide range of holding temperatures and times. After heat treatment and rapid cooling, the liquid product was

Emerging insights into CC and CXC chemokines and their receptors in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dual roles of CC and CXC chemokines in distinguishing active, latent, and subclinical tuberculosis were reviewed, along with an evaluation of their potential as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets to advance precision medicine in tuberculosis management. The graphical abstract was generated with AI assistance (Gemini 3.0).

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Improved Statistical Analysis for Array CGH-Based DNA Copy Number Aberrations

open access: yesCancer Informatics, 2011
Array-based comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH) allows measuring DNA copy number at the whole genome scale. In cancer studies, one may be interested in identifying DNA copy number aberrations (CNAs) associated with certain clinicopathological ...

Modular smoothed analysis of median-of-three Quicksort [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Spielman’s smoothed complexity - a hybrid between worst and average case complexity measures - relies on perturbations of input instances to determine where average-case behavior turns to worst-case.

Polynomial-time Tensor Decompositions with Sum-of-Squares

open access: yes, 2016
We give new algorithms based on the sum-of-squares method for tensor decomposition. Our results improve the best known running times from quasi-polynomial to polynomial for several problems, including decomposing random overcomplete 3-tensors and ...

Association of CDKN2A/B Homozygous Deletion and Extent of Resection With Survival of Patients With WHO CNS5 Grade 4 Astrocytoma

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives WHO grade 4 astrocytomas are associated with poor prognosis, and their prognostic factors remain controversial. This study aimed to identify the prognostic factors and develop a management algorithm for these patients. Methods This study retrospectively included 151 CNS5 adult grade 4 astrocytomas from two medical centers.

Brainstem and Cerebellar Volume Loss and Associated Clinical Features in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative ‘tauopathy’ with predominating pathology in the basal ganglia and midbrain. Caudal tau spread frequently implicates the cerebellum; however, the pattern of atrophy remains equivocal.

Removing observational noise from fisheries-independent time series data using ARIMA models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Abundance indices derived from fishery-independent surveys typically exhibit much higher interannual variability than is consistent with the within-survey variance or the life history of a species. This extra variability is essentially observation noise

Smoothed analysis in compressed sensing

open access: yesCoRR
Arbitrary matrices $M \in \mathbb{R}^{m \times n}$, randomly perturbed in an additive manner using a random matrix $R \in \mathbb{R}^{m \times n}$, are shown to asymptotically almost surely satisfy the so-called {\sl robust null space property}. Whilst insisting on an asymptotically optimal order of magnitude for $m$ required to attain {\sl unique ...
