This work presents a state‐adaptive Koopman linear quadratic regulator framework for real‐time manipulation of a deformable swab tool in robotic environmental sampling. By combining Koopman linearization, tactile sensing, and centroid‐based force regulation, the system maintains stable contact forces and high coverage across flat and inclined surfaces.

Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics for Electrophysiological Modeling: An Alternative to Finite Element Methods [PDF]
International audienceFinite element methods (FEM) are generally used in cardiac 3D-electromechanical modeling. For FEM modeling, a step of a suitable mesh construction is required, which is non-trivial and time consuming for complex geometries.

A Soft Robotic Device for Targeted Massage Therapy of Residual Limbs
Residual limb edema after amputation can hinder recovery and delay prosthetic fitting. This study presents a soft‐robotic wearable device that delivers sequential compression through pneumatic McKibben actuators. By replicating the principles of manual lymphatic drainage, the device generates controlled mechanotherapeutic pressure patterns, providing a

Smoothed finite element method for analysis of multi-layered systems-Applications in biomaterials
© 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. In general, the biologic system can be rather sophisticated and commonly present in hierarchical layers. Hence, the quadrilateral or brick elements are very difficult to precisely capture the anatomic details for

Optimal balance between mass and smoothed stiffness in simulation of acoustic problems [PDF]
The Finite Element Method (FEM) is known to behave overly-stiff, which leads to an imbalance between the mass and stiffness matrices within discretized systems.

Durability of Soft Pneumatic Actuators: A Review and Benchmarking Protocol
Lack of durability is a key challenge hindering the broad scale adoption of soft pneumatic actuators (SPAs) in automation industries. This review provides a comprehensive overview of existing research on SPA durability, introduces a standardized durability benchmarking protocol to consolidate the testing of SPAs, and outlines promising directions for ...

A Soft, Flexible Implant for Wireless Photothermal–Pyroelectric Neurostimulation
A replication strategy is used to enlarge the exposed surface area of barium titanate within flexible films with embedded carbon nanotubes, enabling efficient photothermal‐pyroelectric stimulation. Polar crystalline nanosheets show superior performance in guiding neural progenitor cells toward neuronal differentiation.

SMOOTHED FINITE ELEMENTS LARGE DEFORMATION ANALYSIS
The smoothed finite element method (SFEM) was developed in order to eliminate certain shortcomings of the finite element method (FEM). SFEM enjoys some of the flexibilities of meshfree methods. One advantage of SFEM is its applicability to modeling large

Traction Force Microscopy for Viscoelastic Substrates: A Semi‐Analytical Method
A semi‐analytical viscoelastic traction force microscopy framework is introduced for quantifying time‐resolved cell tractions on flat finite‐thickness substrates. The method generalizes elastic traction force microscopy to Generalized Maxwell materials, identifies when elastic approximations remain valid and, when they do not, shows that inferred ...

We present a large‐area bidirectional human–machine interface integrating electrostatic multimodal tactile sensing with a dual‐resonant haptic actuator. The system enables linear pressure sensing that is decoupled from actuation and stable broadband vibrotactile feedback under dynamic contact conditions, supporting real‐time feedback modulation aligned
