A Rule-of-Thumb for the Variable Bandwidth Selection in Kernel Hazard Rate Estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In nonparametric curve estimation the decision about the type of smoothing parameter is critical for the practical performance. The nearest neighbor bandwidth as introduced by Gefeller and Dette 1992 for censored data in survival analysis is specified by

From finite sample to asymptotics: A geometric bridge for selection criteria in spline regression

open access: yes, 2005
This paper studies, under the setting of spline regression, the connection between finite-sample properties of selection criteria and their asymptotic counterparts, focusing on bridging the gap between the two.

An Asympirical Smoothing Parameters Selection Approach for Smoothing Spline ANOVA Models in Large Samples

open access: yes, 2020
Large samples have been generated routinely from various sources. Classic statistical models, such as smoothing spline ANOVA models, are not well equipped to analyze such large samples due to expensive computational costs. In particular, the daunting computational costs of selecting smoothing parameters render smoothing spline ANOVA models impractical.

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.

SEMIPARAMETRIC MODELS AND P-SPLINES [PDF]

open access: yes
P-splines were introduced by Eilers and Marx (1996). We consider semiparametric models where the smooth part of the model can be described by P-splines. A mixed model representation is also considered.

Oxide‐Free Titanium Coatings by Wire Arc Spraying in a Silane‐Doped Inert Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A silane‐doped argon atmosphere enables the production of oxide‐free titanium coatings via twin‐wire arc spraying at ambient pressure. This innovative approach eliminates residual oxygen, creating process conditions that prevent oxidation and nitride formation.

Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.

Semiparametric estimation for a class of time-inhomogenous diffusion processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Copyright @ 2009 Institute of Statistical Science, Academia SinicaWe develop two likelihood-based approaches to semiparametrically estimate a class of time-inhomogeneous diffusion processes: log penalized splines (P-splines) and the local log-linear ...

Effect of Laser Deoxidation on Adhesive‐Bonded Aluminum in an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser ablation of aluminum under oxygen‐free conditions. The goal is to produce oxide‐free substrates that enable improved adhesive bonding with epoxy. Optimized laser parameters (90% overlap, 300 µJ) combined with oxide‐free substrates result in the highest tensile strength of the adhesive bond.

Application of Geographic Information System and Automated Guidance System in Optimizing Contour and Terrace Farming

open access: yesAgriculture, 2018
Farming contour and terrace fields using automated guidance systems with global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers requires appropriate geographic features for effective guidance and soil and water conservation.
