The Egg-Laying Behavior of the Pond Snail: Electrophysiological Aspects

1984
The ovulation hormone of the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis is produced by the caudo-dorsal cells (CDCs) of the cerebral ganglia [1]. The CDCs secrete their products (see also Geraerts et al., this volume) during a 30 min period of repetitive spiking activity termed the afterdischarge [2].

The Eggs and Egg-Laying Habits of Some Midwestern Land Snails

Transactions of the Kansas Academy of Science (1903-), 1963
During the past few years laboratory populations of twenty-four species of Nebraska's land snails have been established as part of a continuing survey of the gastropod fauna of the state. Observations on the eggs and aspects of the reproductive activity of some of these gastropods are recorded here as a contribution to an area of the natural history of

Spontaneous and induced egg laying behavior of the pond snail,Lymnaea stagnalis

Journal of Comparative Physiology A, 1989
InLymnaea egg laying is initiated by the discharge of the neurosecretory caudodorsal cells (CDCs), which release an ovulatory hormone (caudodorsal cell hormone; CDCH) and other peptides. Egg laying is a complex behavioral pattern composed of various postures and action patterns. This paper describes the egg laying behavior of intact and freely behaving

Pesticide Concentrations in Snail Kite Eggs and Nestlings in Florida

The Condor, 1985
Concentrations of organochlorine pesticides were first reported in the Snail Kite (Rostrhamus sociabilis) and its principal prey, the apple snail (Pomacea paludosa), by Lamont and Reichel (Auk 87:158-159, 1970), using material from Conservation Area 2A (CA2A) and Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in the northeastern part of the Florida ...

Neuronal Feedback In Egg-Laying Behaviour of the Pond Snail Lymnaea Stagnalis

Journal of Experimental Biology, 1993
ABSTRACT The egg-laying behaviour of gastropod molluscs is controlled by peptidergic neuroendocrine cells and has provided an important experimental system for behavioural neurobiology. The genes that code for multiple peptides have been sequenced and the peptides themselves have been identified, thus enabling us to investigate how they ...

Assessment of the effects of 2,4-D-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid-based herbicide exposure in eggs and embryos of golden apple snails using OCT.

Applied Optics
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of herbicide 2, 4-D-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid on golden apple snail eggs and embryos. Additionally, the study assessed the applicability of optical coherence tomography (OCT), a non-invasive depth cross ...

Effects of 2,2′-dichlorobiphenyl on egg laying in the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Comparative Pharmacology, 1992
Abstract 1. Effects of 2,2'-DCB on reproduction of the pond snail Lymnaea stagnalis have been studied with special emphasis on the neuroendocrine caudo-dorsal cells (CDCs). 2. Treated snails showed increased latencies of egg-laying after the clean-water stimulus needed for induction of egg-laying but not after injections with CDC-hormone containing ...

Proximate factors influencing egg cannibalism in the land snail Arianta arbustorum (Pulmonata, Helicidae)

Oecologia, 1986
Factors affecting oophagy among siblings in the land snail Arianta arbustorum were studied in 3 populations from different altitudes in Switzerland. The degree of egg cannibalism in A. arbustorum is a function of hatching asynchrony since the earliest hatched snails will devour the unhatched eggs in the same clutch.
