On the sound of snapping shrimp
Fluid dynamics video: Snapping shrimp produce a snapping sound by an extremely rapid closure of their snapper claw. Our high speed imaging of the claw closure has revealed that the sound is generated by the collapse of a cavitation bubble formed in a ...

The study shows that parasite infection changes heat shock protein expression and can increase heat tolerance in blue mussels. By separating parasite and temperature effects, the results suggest that infection may improve survival during heat stress, highlighting important parasite–host interactions for climate change resilience. Abstract The influence

Abstract Integrated Multi‐Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) is an emerging system that offers a model for sustainable aquaculture intensification, yet its global uptake is limited while its utilization in sub‐Saharan Africa remains unknown. This study assessed the status of mariculture systems, stakeholder awareness, and pathways for IMTA adoption along Kenya'

MONITORING OF SEA ENVIRONMENT BY USING SNAPPING SHRIMP

ABSTRACT This retrospective analysis explores how historical fishing activity (1948–2009) at French Frigate Shoals (FFS) can be examined in relation to the foraging ecology of Hawaiian monk seals. We bring together fisheries catch records, monk seal demographic information, and ecological studies on prey, competitors, and predators to evaluate ...

Cognition as a Conservation Tool: A Case Study of Florida Manatees and Boat Strikes
ABSTRACT Boat strikes injure and kill large numbers of Florida manatees (Trichechus manatus latirostris) each year. Management actions taken to mitigate this threat can be potentially enhanced by consideration of manatee cognitive processes. The role of cognition in marine mammal conservation has received little consideration in the literature.

First Zoea of a Rare Deep-sea Shrimp Vexillipar repandum Chace, 1988 (Crustacea, Decapoda, Caridea, Alpheidae), with Special Reference to Larval Characters of the Family [PDF]
First zoea of a rare alpheid shrimp Vexillipar repandum Chace, associated with a deep-sea hexactinellid sponge, is described and illustrated based on laboratory-hatched material. The general morphology of the first zoea of V. repandum is similar to those
