Nerves and the transformation of claw type in snapping shrimps

Trends in Neurosciences, 1981
Abstract The development and regeneration of asymmetrical claws in crustaceans raise interesting questions about the control of selective gene expression in these bilaterally homologous structures. Such questions are profitably pursued in adult Alpheid shrimp which exhibit transformation of claw type following damage to peripheral nerves of the ...

Improving PSK performance in snapping shrimp noise with rotated constellations

Proceedings of the Seventh ACM International Conference on Underwater Networks and Systems - WUWNet '12, 2012
Snapping shrimp are small marine animals that are typically found in coastal regions with coral reefs. These crustaceans live in droves and are the dominant source of high-frequency ambient noise in their habitat. The noise generated by the shrimp is impulsive and is detrimental to the performance of sonar and underwater communication systems.

The Role of Snapping in Alpheus Heterochaelis Say, 1818, the Big-Clawed Snapping Shrimp

Crustaceana, 1977

Acoustic Response to Playback of Pile-Driving Sounds by Snapping Shrimp

2016
There is concern about the effects of noise from impact pile driving as this constructional technique becomes increasingly widespread in coastal areas. The habitats of most marine invertebrate species are likely to overlap with the areas of human activities along the coast and be affected by the increased levels of noise produced.
