Sustainable Carbon Fibers Enable Stable Long‐Term Lithium Metal Deposition for Prospective Zero‐Excess Lithium Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents lightweight, lignin‐derived carbon fiber current collectors that enable controlled lithium deposition. Structural defects and intermediate‐sized pores stabilize pre‐nucleation quasi‐metallic lithium clusters, promoting uniform lithium plating and stripping.

Reaction kinetics model in liquid and solid phases and its parameterization for room temperature sodium–sulfur battery

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract A multipore, multiphase, continuum model is assembled for the first time for room temperature sodium–sulfur (RT Na–S) batteries, with Na+ ion transport and redox reactions in the liquid electrolyte phase and semisolid phase of precipitates softened by the electrolyte solvent, as guided by molecular dynamics simulations in this study ...

FastCat: Autonomous Discovery of Multielement Layered Double Hydroxide Alloy Catalysts for Alkaline Oxygen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
A machine learning‐guided self‐driving laboratory screened over 500 nickel‐based layered double‐hydroxide catalysts for alkaline oxygen evolution. Out of the eight metals, the robot uncovered a quaternary Ni–Fe–Cr–Co catalysts requiring only 231 mV overpotential to reach 20 mA cm−2.

Oxygen‐Acceptor‐Driven High Photochromic Contrast Solid‐State Excited‐State Intramolecular Proton Transfer Photoswitches

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The excited‐state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) photoswitch tpmSA, which features an oxygen−acceptor, exhibits higher photochromic contrast (ΔE*Lab>74) than its nitrogen‐acceptor Schiff base analogues (ΔE*Lab<30). Theoretical calculations indicate that tpmSA effectively suppresses GSIPT, thereby enhancing the contrast.
