May we tighten the screws? An experiment on public acceptance of pressure during police interrogations

open access: yesLegal and Criminological Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Many countries have vague limits on how much pressure police may use during interrogations. This leaves room for tactics that increase the risk of false confessions, such as lying about the evidence. Public opinion seems to oppose ‘friendly questioning’, which may justify the use of pressure to obtain confessions.

Performance of common snook subjected to different feeding frequencies and rates using automatic feeders [PDF]

open access: yesPesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira, 2019
: The objective of this work was to evaluate the growth performance of common snook (Centropomus undecimalis) subjected to different feeding rates and frequencies using automatic feeders. Two experiments of 60 days each were carried out. In the first one,

Modelling Control Process and Control Mode with Synchronising Orthogonal State Machines

open access: yes, 2011
In this short paper we describe early work on a case study concerning a power window control unit. We use UML-B state machines to simultaneously model both the cyclic processing schedule and the mode of control behaviour.

Solid particles focusing, orienting, and de‐focusing in planar Poiseuille flow

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 72, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Three‐dimensional, time‐dependent lattice‐Boltzmann simulations of neutrally buoyant particles in planar Poiseuille flow have been performed. The particles are spherical or cylindrical (the latter with a length over diameter ratios in the range 1/3 to 2) and have volume fraction ranging from virtually zero (one particle) to 0.15. The channel's

How wildlife respond to tropical cyclones: short‐term tactics and long‐term impacts

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 5, Page 2081-2102, October 2026.
ABSTRACT From butterflies to lizards and from sharks to seabirds, wildlife exhibit tactics to survive the impacts of tropical cyclones, also known as hurricanes, cyclones, or typhoons depending on where they occur. Some species seek refuge during the storm by moving, some remain in place and ride it out, and others move longer distances, avoiding the ...
