Predicting Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier Saturation in Dehydrogenation Cell Gas Diffusion Layers for Hydrogen Storage

open access: yesChemCatChem, EarlyView.
The influence of gas diffusion layer (GDL) microstructures on mass transport and methylcyclohexane saturation (MCH) in a dehydrogenation cell was investigated using pore network modeling. We reveal that GDLs with larger pore diameters (dpore) and lower tortuosity (τ) enable enhanced MCH invasion, thereby improving reactant concentration at the catalyst.

The pace and drivers of community change vary over space and time – findings from a national biomonitoring programme

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Habitat heterogeneity and demographic processes create variability in the major taxonomic diversity trends: 1) biotic homogenization and 2) the emergence of novel community compositions. Nonetheless, little is known about how the imprints of environmental filtering and random demographic processes on community dissimilarity vary over 1) time or 2 ...

Glide-snow avalanche characteristics at different timescales extracted from time-lapse photography

open access: yesAnnals of Glaciology
Glide-snow avalanches release due to a loss of friction at the snow–ground interface, which can result in large avalanches that endanger infrastructure in alpine regions. The underlying processes are still relatively poorly understood, in part due to the

Scalogram habitat measures as predictors of bird abundance

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Birds select habitat characteristics, such as variability in habitat structure, across multiple spatial scales (grain and extent). Measuring habitat variability at multiple scales can better capture factors that influence avifauna communities than focusing on one scale only. One valuable tool in assessing habitat heterogeneity is the cumulative dynamic

The biogeography of red snow microbiomes and their role in melting arctic glaciers

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
The Arctic is melting at an unprecedented rate and key drivers are changes in snow and ice albedo. Here we show that red snow, a common algal habitat blooming after the onset of melting, plays a crucial role in decreasing albedo. Our data reveal that red
