Climate sensitivity of snow cover duration in Austria

International Journal of Climatology, 2000
The number of days with snow cover at Austrian climate stations, normalized by the maximum possible snow days within a season, is denoted n. This seasonal relative snow cover duration is considered a function of station height H and of the seasonal mean temperature T over Europe. When T increases, n decreases and vice versa.

Mean Snow Cover Duration

2016
The temporary storage of precipitation in short term in the form of snow cover has an important function in the water balance of the Upper Danube drainage basin. Among other factors, snow cover depends on the climate variables temperature and precipitation; thus, it is a good indicator for climate change and its impacts for water balance and economic ...

Climate change and snow-cover duration in the Australian Alps

Climatic Change, 1996
This study uses a model of snow-cover duration, an observed climate data set for the Australian alpine area, and a set of regional climate-change scenarios to assess quantitatively how changes in climate may affect snow cover in the Australian Alps. To begin, a regional interannual climate data set of high spatial resolution is prepared for input to ...

Spatiotemporal variability of snow cover timing and duration over the Eurasian continent during 1966–2012

Science of The Total Environment, 2021
The timing and duration of snow cover critically affect surface albedo, surface energy budgets, and hydrological processes. Previous studies using in-situ or satellite remote sensing data have mostly been site-specific (Siberia and the Tibetan Plateau), and remote sensing and/or modeling data include large uncertainties.

Characteristics of snow cover duration across the northeast United States of America

International Journal of Climatology, 1997
The presence or absence of a snow cover affects a myriad of environmental and societal systems through its modification of the surface radiation balance and its ultimate impact on near-surface air temperatures. Daily snow cover data were collected for a network of 91 stations covering the northeast USA from Maine, south through to West Virginia.
