Snowpack albedo and snow density
Cold Regions Science and Technology, 1979Abstract Because snow is an aggregation of many small particles, its albedo might be expected to be a function of density and grain size. However, Bohren and Barkstrom assumed that snow grains act independently and predicted theoretically that snow albedo will be independent of density for fixed grain size at low densities.

The density profile of blown snow
Journal of Geophysical Research, 1965An optical technique for measuring the density of snow suspended in air has been developed. This technique has the advantage of minimum interference with the air stream and of instantaneous response. Measurements of the vertical profile of snow density indicate that the eddy diffusivity for the snow must be an order of magnitude larger than the eddy ...

A 25‐foot square area of snow pack near Crater Lake, Oregon, was studied systematically during the 1940–1941 season. By successive excavation and refilling of portions of the study site, and by means of identifying ribbons, the metamorphosis of each layer of the snow pack was observed at regular intervals during the accumulation and melting seasons ...

Snow density estimation using Polarimitric ASAR data
2009 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2008Remote sensing of Radar Polarimety has great potential to determine the extent and properties of snow cover. Availability of spaceborne sensor dual polarimetric C-band data of ENVISAT-ASAR can enhance the accuracy in measurement of snow physical parameters as compared to single fixed polarization data measurement.

Strength studies of high‐density snows
Eos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1958Various strength properties of naturally compacted high‐density snows, in the density range from 0.40 to 0.75 g/cm3 are reported. Test results are given for: unconfined compression; unconfined and confined double shear at various lateral pressures; ring, flexural, and centrifugal tensile strength, and torsional strength.
