This paper explains the method of compiling the map of snow depth in Norway, based not only on data of meteorological stations lying mainly at the bottom of valleys, but also on measurements of snow accumulation on the glaciers. The main point in compiling this map was to analyse the dependence of snow depth on the height of localities in different ...

A passive microwave snow depth algorithm with a proxy for snow metamorphism
Hydrological Processes, 2002AbstractPassive microwave brightness temperatures of snowpacks depend not only on the snow depth, but also on the internal snowpack properties, particularly the grain size, which changes through the winter. Algorithms that assume a constant grain size can yield erroneous estimates of snow depth or water equivalent.

Application of global snow model for the estimation of snow depth in the UK
Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics, 2009Microwave imagery can be used successfully for mapping of snow and estimation of snow pack characteristics under almost all weather conditions. This research is a contribution to the field of space borne remote sensing of snow by means of passive microwave data imagery.
