Reliability-based snow load maps for building design
2015This paper describes the development of a new snow load map for defining ground snow loads for building (roof) design in the state of Colorado. The newly proposed Colorado maps aim to ensure that structures designed across the state achieve the target safety index of 3 defined in ASCE 7.

Reliability of Steel Hall in Zenica Loaded by Snow Load
2019Snow load is the dominant load for steel structures of hall in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Existing structures are calculated in accordance with the JUS regulations that were valid in the former Yugoslavia. The snow load was based on the values proposed in the DIN regulations of 1936 and used until the development of new regulations according to ...

Reliable jump detection for snow sports with low-cost MEMS inertial sensors
Sports Technology, 2011Body-mounted devices, incorporating low-cost micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), for real-time sports performance feedback are commercially available. In sports such as skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking, aerial jumps can be detected with these devices and performance variables including air time and jump ...

Reliability Analysis of Snow Depth Monitoring System Based on Improved FMECA
2016Aiming at the problems of low accuracy and strong subjectivity in reliability analysis based on FMECA, the fuzzy theory and VIKOR theory methods are applied in criticality analysis in FMECA technique. Firstly, fuzzy decision matrix of risk factors based on fuzzy theory is built, in which fuzziness is removed by barycenter method, and specific ...

Reliability Analysis of Slope Stability under the Condition of Extreme Ice-Snow and Frozen Disaster
Earth and Space 2010, 2010Most areas in south China suffered the rare disaster of low temperature, ice-snow and freezing weather at 2008, which caused serious impact on the society, e.g. power systems, transportation, agriculture and people's living. In this paper, the influence of ice-snow on the infrastructures, such as the slope, is studied; meanwhile the defense work under ...

Quantification of reliability of roofs subjected to snow loadsdetermined by hydrological models
Snow loads exert a significant influence on the structural integrity of buildings in the northern hemisphere, necessitating precise assessment methodologies to ensure the reliability of roofs under this environmental stressor. The determination of roof snow load is intricately linked to evaluating the weight of accumulated snow on the roof surface, a ...Thomas Thiis +3 more

Abstract Performance-based engineering is a new paradigm in structural design for natural hazards. In this paper, the authors explore the problem of estimating regional variations in fractiles of snow load used for design purposes from a limited number of discrete observing stations. The reliability implications of such estimates are examined for the

Despite the widespread research use of Miles and Snow's typology of strategic orientations, there have been no systematic attempts to assess the reliability and validity of its various measures. The present work provides such an assessment using data collected at two points from over 400 organizations in the hospital industry. We examined dimensions of
