Cloud-Gap Filtering for Reliable MSG-SEVIRI-Based Snow Cover Records

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences
Abstract. Snow cover is a key variable for climate monitoring and hydrological applications, yet optical satellite observations are strongly limited by cloud contamination, particularly during winter. The EUMETSAT H SAF H34 snow product derived from MSG-SEVIRI uses the unique 15-minute temporal resolution over the full SEVIRI disc to clear the clouds ...

A case study of reliability of snow-loaded steel structures

open access: yes, 2019
Lumikuorma on aiheuttanut viime vuosina laajarunkoisten rakennusten kattorakenteiden vaurioitumisia eri puolilla Suomea. Rakenteiden kuitenkin tulisi olla luotettavia ja kestää jokatalvinen lumikuorma ilman lisätoimenpiteitä, kuten lumen poistamista ...

A Novel Bipolar DC Connection Strategy for Photovoltaic Power Plants With a 50% Reduction in DC Cabling Length

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Bipolar configuration is a new topology in the direct current (DC) system of photovoltaic power plants, which is topologically analogous to the bipolar configuration utilised in High‐Voltage Direct Current power transmission systems. DC cable length and copper usage are reduced by 50% using a bipolar configuration.
