Reliability of steel roof structures under snow loads
Structural Safety, 2015Abstract The collapse of roof structures under extreme snow loads can harm building occupants, leave building owners burdened by costs of repairs, and lead to loss of income, equipment or merchandise. This study investigates the reliability of two types of steel roofs: those supported by open web steel joists, and those supported by wide-flange steel

Abstract An appropriate probabilistic description of snow loads is important in reliability analysis. Probability distributions for annual maximum ground snow loads are studied in detail in this paper based on the samples of snow loads on the ground, which are simulated by a snowmelt model.

Reliability of Steel Truss Roof Systems Under Variable Snow Load Profiles
International Journal of Steel Structures, 2020The probabilistic safety analysis of steel truss roof systems under variable snow load profiles is investigated. The roofs of structures such as industrial buildings or sports halls, which require wide areas, are frequently subjected to unexpectedly high loads.

Observations are inevitably contaminated with measurement uncertainty, which is a predominant source of uncertainty in some cases. In present practice probabilistic models are typically fitted to measurements without proper consideration of this uncertainty.

Reliability-based snow load maps for building design
This paper describes the development of a new snow load map for defining ground snow loads for building (roof) design in the state of Colorado. The newly proposed Colorado maps aim to ensure that structures designed across the state achieve the target safety index of 3 defined in ASCE 7.

Site Specific Reliability-Targeted Snow Loads and Winter Wind Parameters Across the World
This report presents a framework for estimating Reliability Targeted Snow Loads (RTSLs) and Winter Wind Parameters (WWPs) at locations outside the Conterminous United States (OCONUS). The methodology integrates ground-based in-situmeasurements with gridded global climate products to generate spatially continuous RTSL estimates for nearly any location ...
