Observations are inevitably contaminated with measurement uncertainty, which is a predominant source of uncertainty in some cases. In present practice probabilistic models are typically fitted to measurements without proper consideration of this uncertainty.

Reliability Analysis of Snow Depth Monitoring System Based on Improved FMECA
2016Aiming at the problems of low accuracy and strong subjectivity in reliability analysis based on FMECA, the fuzzy theory and VIKOR theory methods are applied in criticality analysis in FMECA technique. Firstly, fuzzy decision matrix of risk factors based on fuzzy theory is built, in which fuzziness is removed by barycenter method, and specific ...

Reliability of sampling designs for spatial snow surveys
Computers & Geosciences, 2007Spatial patterns are an inherent property of most naturally occurring materials at a large range of scales. To describe spatial patterns in the field, several observations are made according to a certain sampling design. The spatial structure can be described by the semivariogram range, and nugget and sill variances. We test how reliably seven sampling

Failures of Roofs under Snow Load: Causes and Reliability Analysis
Forensic Engineering 2009, 2009Collapses of a number of roofs in Europe during the winter 2005/2006 initiated discussions concerning reliability of the roofs exposed to snow loads. Presented overview of extensive investigations of structural failures is focused on causes and consequences of failures.

Effect of Statistical Uncertainties in Ground Snow Load on Structural Reliability
IABSE Reports, 2015<p>This paper studies the effect of commonly neglected statistical uncertainties on structural reliability. The failure probability of a generic structural member, subjected to snow load is analysed using frequentist and Bayesian techniques to quantify parameter estimation and model selection uncertainties in ground snow load. Various variable to

Is the extreme snow depth record for nordland, norway reliable?
Geografiska Annaler: Series A, Physical Geography, 2016A snow depth of 370 cm at Dunderlandsdalen in winter 1919–20 is the largest recorded at stations in Nordland, Norway. During the period 1895–1924, the average maximum annual value there was 150.4 cm; at other stations it ranged from 38.5 to 190.1 cm. The ratio of maxima at other stations to that at Dunderlandsdalen was particularly low in 1919–20.

Reliability-based snow load maps for building design
2015This paper describes the development of a new snow load map for defining ground snow loads for building (roof) design in the state of Colorado. The newly proposed Colorado maps aim to ensure that structures designed across the state achieve the target safety index of 3 defined in ASCE 7.

Reliable jump detection for snow sports with low-cost MEMS inertial sensors
Sports Technology, 2011Body-mounted devices, incorporating low-cost micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), for real-time sports performance feedback are commercially available. In sports such as skiing, snowboarding, and mountain biking, aerial jumps can be detected with these devices and performance variables including air time and jump ...
