The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1964The absorption intensities of SO2 were measured in the wavelength region 1849–3150 Å employing the hydrogen continuum as the source and at selected wavelengths utilizing the mercury line spectrum. Molecular beam photoionization study of SO2 and (SO2)2
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1981Photoionization efficiency (PIE) data for SO2+ have been obtained with a wavelength resolution of 0.14 Å (FWHM) in the region 625–1005 Å using the molecular beam method. The ionization energy (IE) of SO2 was determined to be 12.348±0.002 eV (1004.08±0.20 Å).

Vibrational Relaxation in Pure SO2 and SO2/Ar Mixtures
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1967Sound absorption and velocity measurements have been made in pure SO2 and mixtures of 25% and 50% Ar with SO2 at room temperature, 400°, and 500°K. The results confirm earlier reports of a multiple relaxation process. The data have been fit with both series and parallel relaxation curves and the temperature dependence of the individual relaxation times

The ESR spectrum of normal and 17O labeled SO2− in aqueous solutions of Na2S2O4 and in γ-irradiated K2S2O5 has been studied. The 33S and 17O hyperfine tensors are very nearly axially symmetric with parallel and perpendicular principal values of 58.0 ± 0.5 and 4 ± 4 G for 33S and 30.0 ± 0.5 and 3 ± 3 G for 17O. The principal values of the g tensor are 2.

Plant species reflected SO2-stress gradients that existed with increased distance from Hawaiian volcano vents which emit SO2. These changes relate, in part at least, to species differences in stomatal responses to SO2. The sensitive leaves do not close their stomata when exposed to elevated atmospheric SO2 concentrations.

Radioactive 38S in an atmospheric SO2 and SO2 oxidation rate measurement
Nature, 1977BHANDARI et al.1 and independently Perkins et al.2 have detected cosmic-ray-produced 38S in several precipitation samples. This paper reports on the first detection of cosmic-ray-produced radioactive 38S as atmospheric 38SO2. The use of this nuclide as a tracer for the in situ determination of SO2 oxidation rates is also discussed.

Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry and Interfacial Electrochemistry, 1979Abstract Cathodic reduction of sulfur dioxide in dimethylformamide results in the formation of two different types of radical species. From a thorough analysis of the corresponding e.s.r. spectra observed at various SO2 concentrations, it is concluded that the two species differ by one molecule of SO2 according to SO2−.+S02S2O4−.
