Receptor‐Free Identification of Toxic Gases Enabled by Hygroscopic Aqueous Salt Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Water as a gas sensor coating sounds impossible—until it stops evaporating. Here, hygroscopic salt solutions (LiCl, LiBr, H3PO4) form non‐drying aqueous films on CNT chemiresistors under ambient air. Gases partition into these liquid layers, sometimes transforming into water, and generate salt‐specific resistance fingerprints across a four‐channel ...

Electrospun Wood‐Derived Biopolymers as Electrodes in Electrochemical Energy Storage Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrospinning transforms wood‐derived cellulose and lignin into architecturally defined, binder‐free carbon electrodes with tuneable porosity and functionality. This review shows how fibre design enables decoupled charge and mass transport, enhancing performance across battery systems, while identifying key challenges in spinnability, scalability ...

Acid Site Design for Low Hydration Proton Exchange Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
α‐CF2 substitution adjacent to sulfonic acid increases acid strength and enables efficient proton transport under low hydration conditions. This molecular design reduces the dependence of hydrocarbon proton exchange membranes on excessive water uptake, addressing a key limitation of conventional hydrocarbon PEMs while maintaining favorable conductivity

Role of hydrogen sulfide in sulfur dioxide production and vascular regulation

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
Both hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) are produced endogenously from the mammalian metabolic pathway of sulfur-containing amino acids and play important roles in several vascular diseases.

Fluorinated Deep Eutectic Gel Electrolytes with Simultaneously Enhanced Mechanical Strength and Ionic Conductivity for Solid‐State Lithium Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The synergistic integration of rigid polyacrylamide (PAM) and flexible poly(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA) phases offers exceptional toughness to suppress lithium dendrites, simultaneously enhancing mechanical strength and ionic conductivity. ABSTRACT Gel polymer electrolytes for lithium‐metal batteries face an inherent trade‐off between mechanical ...

Effectiveness of low-cost air quality monitors for identifying volcanic SO₂ and PM downwind from Masaya volcano, Nicaragua

open access: yesVolcanica, 2022
Gas and particulate matter (PM) emissions from Masaya volcano, Nicaragua, cause substantial regional volcanic air pollution (VAP). We evaluate the suitability of low-cost SO2 and PM sensors for a continuous air-quality network.
