Comparison of Clegg and TruFirm surface hardness for predicting tennis ball bounce standards on grass courts under match play

open access: yesCrop Science, Volume 65, Issue 4, July/August 2025.
Abstract Participants playing tennis have increased by 33% since 2020. Vertical ball bounce (BB) ≥ 80% relative to concrete is the standard for all courts. The 0.5‐kg Clegg impact soil tester (CIST) measures surface hardness (gravities, g) and is the standard for predicting tennis BB.

Skeletal Muscle Memory: An Update From the Antidoping Perspective

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, Volume 17, Issue 7, Page 1063-1070, July 2025.
ABSTRACT This narrative review explores the concept of muscle memory, focusing on the physiological and biochemical mechanisms underlying information retention in skeletal muscle tissue as it relates to antidoping. The discussion encompasses the role of satellite cells (SCs) in myonuclei recruitment, resulting in increased myonuclear density and ...

Maximal Intensity Periods During International Male Field Hockey

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 25, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT In this retrospective cohort study, we examined maximal intensity periods (MIPs) for a broad range of movement characteristics during international field hockey. Further, we examined the intensity of near‐peak periods, and whether peak demands for different movement characteristics occurred simultaneously.

Molecular Mechanisms, Endurance Athlete, and Synergistic Therapeutic Effects of Marine‐Derived Antioxidant Astaxanthin Supplementation and Exercise in Cancer, Metabolic Diseases, and Healthy Individuals

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 7, July 2025.
In metabolic disease, astaxanthin reduces lactate and carbohydrate (CHO) oxidation, while increasing fat oxidation, suggesting improved metabolic efficiency. In relation to exercise, astaxanthin enhances mitochondrial protection and biogenesis, boosts capillary blood flow, and improves oxygen delivery, all of which could lead to better endurance and ...
