Transformation towards the sustainable management of peatlands: A characterisation of farmers in the Teufelsmoor, Germany

open access: yesPeople and Nature
Peatland restoration through rewetting is a pivotal solution to counteract the climate crisis. Since many peatlands with the potential for rewetting are farmland, rewetting can only be achieved in collaboration with peatland farmers. However, the discord

Geospatial modelling of Agro-climatic suitability for Coffea arabica under CMIP6 scenarios in the Western Highlands of Ethiopia

open access: yesTrees, Forests and People
Coffea arabica holds utmost economic and cultural significance for Ethiopians, being one of the major sources of national income and rural livelihoods. However, slight warming or changes in rainfall have catastrophic effects on the land suitability for ...

Gut Lactate Boosts Ruminococcus via Histone Lactylation to Mediate Time‐Restricted Feeding Protection in Crohn's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TRF enriches Ruminococcus, a bacterial genus producing SCFAs, and activates the epithelial HIF‐1α signaling pathway. This mechanism protects the colonic mucosa from inflammatory insults in colitis models. Mechanistically, gut lactate production during starvation and refeeding mediates H4K12la, which increases SLC9A3 expression and creates an acidic gut

Innovative monitoring methods in the context of adaptive management of hunting in the amazon, Colombia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Managing complex hunting socio-ecological systems within a context of uncertainty requires setting up efficient ways to monitor changes in the system and inform decision making in an adaptive management process.

Diversity of Pharmaceuticals Enhances Antibiotic Resistance in the Invertebrate Gut via Biofilm‐Mediated Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Pharmaceutical diversity acts as an independent driver of antibiotic resistance in soil invertebrates. While bulk soil remains unaffected, the collembolan gut microbiome exhibits significant resistance gene enrichment under complex chemical exposure and diurnal warming.

Single‐Atom Pt Anchoring on Self‐Doped ZrO2@G‐C3N4 Nanostructure Enables Efficient Photocatalytic Seawater Hydrogen Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Grain‐like Zr3+‐ZrO2 and Pt single atoms are integrated into an S‐scheme Zr3+‐ZrO2@g‐C3N4 heterostructure to enable efficient visible‐light‐driven seawater hydrogen production. The combined effect of Pt single‐atom sites and the S‐scheme charge‐transfer pathway accelerates carrier separation, preserves strong redox ability, and markedly enhances ...

Global Nitrogen Deposition Promotes Carbon Sink Formation in Terrestrial Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nitrogen deposition alleviates ecosystem N limitation and enhances carbon sinks. Using 829 observations, we show 36% of deposited N is retained globally (39.15 Tg N yr−1), with distinct NHx and NOy contributions. This retention drives a terrestrial C sink of 0.88 Pg C yr−1 (25.48%), highlighting the importance of pool‐specific C:N stoichiometry ...

Future‐Proofing Natura 2000 Through a Biocultural Approach

open access: yesConservation Letters
The Natura 2000 sites of the European Union form the largest protected area network globally and are widely considered a conservation success. However, many Natura 2000 sites are not in a favorable conservation status, and support by policy and society ...
