A Theory of Social Identity with an Application to Redistribution
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2007People often conceive themselves and behave as members of social groups. In this paper I oer a de…nition of social identi…cation and an equilibrium concept where social identities are endogenously determined. I show how the model cap- tures numerous experimental results and accounts for such phenomena as ingroup bias, cooperation and conformity.
