Controlled Movement of Soft Actuators using Multi‐Responsive Microgel Arrays and Microcirculatory Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Microscale hydrogels (microgels) feature improved mass transport characteristics supportive of fast actuation and chemical tunability amenable to programmed stimuli response. A unique soft actuator architecture is realized by encapsulating microgels in soft microcirculatory systems which enable the convenient delivery of liquid stimuli for powering and

Coexisting Rashba/Dresselhaus Spin Splitting in Solution‐Processed Bournonite Films Using Circular Photogalvanic Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Circular photogalvanic effect measurements and first‐principles calculations reveal spin‐splitting states in solution‐processed bournonite films (CuPbSbS3) due to structural and bulk inversion asymmetry. The results provide experimental confirmation of coexisting Rashba and Dresselhaus spin‐splitting states in this non‐centrosymmetric chalcogenide ...

Aid Effectiveness: Looking at the Aid-Social Capital-Growth Nexus [PDF]

open access: yes
We examine the impact of institutional quality and social capital on aid effectiveness. We find strong evidence that social capital and institutions enhance aid effectiveness. Moreover, once we account for the role of social capital and institutions, the

An Investment and Equality-Led Sustainable Development Strategy for Europe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Austerity policies coupled with rising inequality in Europe have resulted in a prolonged stagnation and a vicious circle of chronically low demand, slow down in investment and productivity, and economic, social and political instability.

MPI‐Guided Photothermal Therapy of Prostate Cancer Using Stem Cell Delivery of Magnetotheranostic Nanoflowers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Tumor‐tropic human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) were used as delivery vehicles for magnetotheranostic gold–iron oxide nanoflowers. Magnetic particle imaging of the iron component demonstrated widespread intratumoral distribution and sustained retention in contrast to injection of naked nanoflowers.

Cold Quad‐Modal Nanocomplex for Precise and Quantitative In Vivo Stem Cell Tracking

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multimodal albumin–bismuth sulfide–superparamagnetic iron oxide (ABS) nanocomplexes are developed for stem cell tracking across four different imaging modalities: MRI, MPI, MSOT, and CT. Combining its flexibility with high sensitivity, this quad‐modal imaging agent enables a robust quantification of ABS‐labeled stem cells in vivo.

Tissue Engineered Human Elastic Cartilage From Primary Auricular Chondrocytes for Ear Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Despite over three decades of research, no tissue‐engineered solution for auricular reconstruction in microtia patients has reached clinical translation. The key challenge lies in generating functional elastic cartilage ex vivo. Here, we integrate synergistic cell‐biomaterial strategies to engineer auricular grafts with mechanical and histological ...
