Elucidating and Biomimicking the Coloration Mechanisms Responsible for the Vibrant Blue Hues of the Common Kingfisher

This study reveals why the back feathers of a common kingfisher show various non‐iridescent blueish structural colors by analyzing the internal structures of the feathers. It demonstrates how structural differences lead to the different optical interactions, thereby producing different colors.
