MATHEMATICAL MODELING AND REGIONAL SOCIO-ECOLOGICAL SYSTEMS

Collection of scientific papers, 2023
One of the goals of forming regional socio-economic systems is to improve the interaction of nature and society by improving the processes of nature management. Therefore, it is necessary to study changes in the environmental status of natural ecosystems of the region under economic activity pressure. Natural ecosystems are complex systems, and methods

A model of the gelada socio-ecological system

Primates, 1992
Data from three populations of gelada baboons are used to generate a model of the species' socio-ecology that relates time budget requirements to group size, day journey length, and relevant environmental parameters. The model is used to examine the range of environmental conditions under which gelada could survive.

A learning progression for energy in socio‐ecological systems

Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 2012
AbstractThis article reports on our work of developing a learning progression focusing on K‐12 students' performances of using energy concept in their accounts of carbon‐transforming processes in socio‐ecological systems. Carbon‐transforming processes—the ecological carbon cycle and the combustion of biomass and fossil fuels—provide all of the energy ...

Complex network analysis of socio-ecological systems

2021
Complex network theory and analysis (CNTA) belong to a stream of research studies refuelled by the interplay between the extensive use of statistical mechanics tools based on a re-interpretation of the well-known graph theory and the availability of a huge processing power accessible today in unprecedented ways.

Irish Sea : a socio-ecological system

2006
Recent research has highlighted the need to look beyond the coastal zone and adopt an ecosystem-based approach to sustainable use and conservation in marine management. At the same time there has been a growing recognition that ecosystem management involves coupled, complex socio-ecological systems which are inherently unpredictable due to the non ...

A learning progression for water in socio‐ecological systems

Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 2012
AbstractProviding model‐based accounts (explanations and predictions) of water and substances in water moving through environmental systems is an important practice for environmental science literacy and necessary for citizens confronting global and local water quantity and quality issues.

Disturbance patterns in a socio-ecological system at multiplescales

2006
Ecological systems with hierarchical organization and non-equilibrium dynamics require multiple-scale analyses to comprehend how a system is structured and to formulate hypotheses about regulatory mechanisms. Characteristic scales in real landscapes are determined by, or at least reflect, the spatial patterns and scales of constraining human ...
