A Distributed Socio-Hydrological Framework

open access: yes
This model integrates two different software systems, MODFLOW and NetLogo, through Python as an intermediary platform. The framework enables a high spatiotemporal resolution in the Socio-hydrological modelling. In this regard, the discharge values generated in NetLogo are inserted into MODFLOW files through Python scripts.

Salted Peat: The Forgotten Casualty of Rising Sea Level in Freshwater Coastal Tropical Peatlands

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, Volume 1, Issue 2, June 2026.
This paper invites reflection on the largely overlooked risk that rising sea levels may salinize coastal tropical peatlands, potentially destabilizing vegetation, carbon cycling, and livelihoods. By synthesizing emerging evidence, it highlights a critical blind spot in climate models and adaptation frameworks that warrant urgent scientific and policy ...

From Gauged to Ungauged: Using Catchment Morphology to Guide the Transfer of Physics‐Informed Neural Network Discharge Predictions

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study develops a transferability framework that combines ensemble clustering with hybrid PINN‐GRU models for discharge prediction in ungauged catchments. Using 10 catchment morphometrics, 117 subcatchments were grouped into four clusters, achieving strong within‐cluster transferability.

Tropical forest hydrology and the role of the UNESCO International Hydrological Programme [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 1999
The paper outlines a perspective on tropical forest hydrology within the context of an international hydrological programme. Experience in tropical forest hydrology research in North East Australia is a focal point for comparison with international ...

Literature Review of Catchment Models in Aotearoa New Zealand for Ecological and Social Climate Change Effects

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research, Volume 60, Issue 2, June 2026.
Shifting climatic averages and extremes are affecting both environmental and anthropogenic communities. This is a growing concern, especially for social–ecological systems (SES) such as lakes and their catchments, which integrate ecological and societal subsystems.

Improvement of socio-hydrological model to capture the dynamics of pluvial floods: a case study in frequent pluvial flooding areas in Wakayama City, Japan

open access: yesFrontiers in Water
In conventional socio-hydrological research, no studies have developed a system dynamics model to capture the dynamics of pluvial floods alone, and the target areas have been large-scale, such as cities and river basins. Thus, the target social community

Communities actively seek nature for well‐being despite constraints: (Re)representation of nature experiences through composite narratives

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 6, Page 1785-1801, June 2026.
Abstract While the physical and mental health benefits of greenspace exposure are well documented, ethnic minority communities in the United Kingdom continue to engage with these environments at disproportionately lower rates. This persistent disparity points to an oversight in existing literature, specifically regarding how these communities navigate ...

Policy Measures to Lead Sustainable Development of Agriculture Catchment: Socio-Hydrology Modeling Insights

open access: yesHydrology
Achieving sustainable development in agricultural catchments requires well-designed policy measures. This study examines the intricate interactions between social dynamics and hydrological processes within agricultural systems to propose targeted policy ...

Near‐Term Climate Change Impacts on Kenyan Tree Cover

open access: yesEarth's Future, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract Afforestation efforts within tropical landscapes are continuing apace to achieve goals related to climate change mitigation, sustainability and conservation. Outcomes from these efforts are likely to be determined by future changes in climate and disturbance regimes.
