The Sociolectal and Stylistic Variability of Rhythm in Stockholm
Language and Speech, 2021The question of “staccato” rhythm in Stockholm’s multiethnolect is investigated by comparing nPVIV measurements of the speech of 36 adult male speakers. The men, ages 24–43, come from a stratified sample of social classes and racial groups. Three contextual styles were recorded and analyzed: informal, formal, and very formal.

Abstract The breakdown of the Latin case system was offset in part by an expansion of its prepositional system. Two prepositions which underwent considerable expansion were ad and de. One aspect of their expansion saw them vie with one another to introduce nominal complements expressing the idea of possession.

Gender and Age in Viennese Sociolects
Zeitschrift für Dialektologie und LinguistikThe dynamics of Viennese sociolects are driven by rising educational levels, as well as gender, and age differences. Our results show that the varieties have a certain overlap but can be defined by characteristic phonological processes structured by social variables like gender and age.
