On the shape of a pure O-sequence [PDF]
An order ideal is a finite poset X of (monic) monomials such that, whenever M is in X and N divides M, then N is in X. If all, say t, maximal monomials of X have the same degree, then X is pure (of type t).

The compactum and finite dimensionality in Banach algebras
Given a Banach algebra A, the compactum of A is defined to be the set of elements x∈A such that the operator a→xax is compact. General properties of the compactum and its relation to the socle of A are discussed.

We show that the class of rings with flat socles is closed under the formation of polynomial extensions, direct products, and excellent extensions. We also point out that if a ring R can be embedded into a semisimple Artinian ring, then all finitely generated flat R-modules are projective.

Symmetric designs and projective special unitary groups $\text{PSU}_{5}(q)$ [PDF]
In this article, we prove that if a nontrivial symmetric $(v, k, \lambda)$ design admit a flag-transitive and point-primitive automorphism group $G$, then the socle $X$ of $G$ cannot be a projective special unitary group of dimension five. As a

In studying ideals that are obtained in some fashion from minors of matrices one is frequently in the position of having two ideals \(K\subset J\) for which the generators of \(K\) are known, perfection of \(J\) is known, and there is a strong suspicion of equality.

Artinian level algebras of socle degree 4 [PDF]
In this paper we study the O-sequences of local (or graded) K -algebras of socle degree 4. More precisely, we prove that an O-sequence h=(1,3,h 2 ,h 3 ,h 4 ) h = ( 1 , 3 , h 2 , h 3 , h 4 ) , where h 4 ≥2 h 4 ≥ 2 , is the h -vector of a local level K ...

Ingiusta e sanguinaria? Atene-Periandro nel discorso di Socle corinzio (Her. V 92)
The ironical processes and the allusions to contemporary events in Herodotus’ Histories have recently aroused a growing interest among scholars, with a special focus on his concern about «Athenian imperialism».

Morse theory for the space of Higgs G-bundles [PDF]
Fix a $C^\infty$ principal $G$--bundle $E^0_G$ on a compact connected Riemann surface $X$, where $G$ is a connected complex reductive linear algebraic group.

A lattice theoretic characterization for the existence of a faithful irreducible representation [PDF]
In a recent article S\'ebastien Palcoux formulated a sufficient condition on the subgroup lattice of a finite group $G$ that guarantees the existence of a faithful irreducible complex representation of $G$, and asked whether his condition is also ...

Finite dimensionality in scole of Banach algebras
It is shown that if the socle soc(A) of a semisimple Banach algebra A is norm-closed, then soc(A) is already finite dimensional. The proof makes use of the Al-Moajil theorem. However it is remarked that our main theorem is an extension of the Al-Moajil's.
