Madras Agricultural Journal, 1993A study was conducted to find out the efficacy of drip irrigation, in combination with row spacing and plant spacing on the yield of MCU 7 summer cotton. Two levels of irrigation, three levels of row spacing and three levels of plant spacing were incorporated in the study. The water used for irrigation and the field soil type were sodic.

According to different estimates, there are 831 to 932 million hectares of salt affected soils – saline soils, saline-sodic soils and sodic soils. The measure of salinity is the electrical conductivity of the saturation extract (ECe) and the measure of sodicity is the exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) or the sodium adsorption ratio (SAR).
