Sodium-Ion Batteries (a Review)

Russian Journal of Electrochemistry, 2018
State-of-the-art in the studies of sodium-ion batteries is discussed in comparison with their deeper developed lithium-ion analogs. The principal problem hindering the development of competitive sodium-ion batteries is the low effectiveness of the electrode materials at hand. The principal efforts in the formation of anodes for the sodium-ion batteries

Alternative materials for sodium ion–sulphur batteries

Journal of Materials Chemistry A, 2013
An alternative configuration of anode and cathode, i.e. nanostructured Sn–C and hollow carbon spheres–sulphur composite electrodes, are characterized here in an ether-based electrolyte for application in sodium ion–sulphur batteries. The enhanced morphology of the electrodes, the high values of conductivity and of sodium transference number, as well as

Subzero‐Temperature Cathode for a Sodium‐Ion Battery

Advanced Materials, 2016
A subzero-temperature cathode material is obtained by nucleating cubic prussian blue crystals at inhomogeneities in carbon nanotubes. Due to fast ionic/electronic transport kinetics even at -25 °C, the cathode shows an outstanding low-temperature performance in terms of specific energy, high-rate capability, and cycle life, providing a practical sodium-

Electrochemical Insertion of Sodium Ion into Nanocarbon Materials for Sodium Ion Batteries

ECS Transactions, 2013
The structural changes of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) by the reactions with sodium in a sealed glass tube at high temperature were investigated by Raman scattering and XRD measurements. It was found that sodium atoms are inserted into the nanotube hollow core space in the case of open-end SWCNTs.

Electrical Circuit Model for Sodium-ion Batteries

IECON 2024 - 50th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society
Sodium-ion batteries offer a promising alternative to lithium-ion ones thanks to their lower cost, smaller ecological footprint, and less stringent safety requirements. The development of an accurate model to reproduce their behaviors is still an open issue, despite being essential for enabling their efficient utilization.
