Cell wall polysaccharides determine cooking quality in cassava roots

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 6, Issue 6, Page 1534-1551, November 2024.
Cassava is a vital food source for millions worldwide, crucial for food security and economic stability. This study analyzed cell wall polysaccharides in cassava roots to understand their impact on cooking properties. We found these polysaccharides influence the textural attributes of cassava roots, essential for both cooking and consumption.

Turbidimetric evaluation of the solubilization rate: dissolution of dodecane nanodrops in 7.5 mM sodium dodecylsulfate solutions at selected sodium chloride concentrations [PDF]

open access: yesRCEIF 9:1-22 (2020), 2020
The rate of micelle solubilization (SR) can be appraised following the decrease of the radius of a macroscopic drop of oil in contact with a surfactant solution [Todorov, 2002]. Alternatively, the time required for the dissolution of a liquid dispersion can be used for this purpose.

Attenuating susceptibility to ascites in cold‐stressed broiler chickens fed canola meal‐based diets by supplementing arginine or guanidinoacetic acid, either alone or in combination with phenylalanine

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 10, Issue 6, November 2024.
For ARG subscript: Decreased ascites mortality by increased plasma nitric oxide (NO), decreased RV:TV ratio and improved blood oxygen levels. For PHE subscript: Improved feed conversion ratio and decreased ascites susceptibility when combined with ARG or GAA.

Genome‐Scale Metabolic Modeling of Halomonas elongata 153B Explains Polyhydroxyalkanoate and Ectoine Biosynthesis in Hypersaline Environments

open access: yesBiotechnology Journal, Volume 19, Issue 10, October 2024.
Graphical Abstract and Lay Summary We constructed and validated a genome‐scale metabolic model for Halomonas elongata, revealing key metabolic changes during ectoine and PHA biosynthesis, including reduced oxidative phosphorylation and enhanced precursor production.

Cryo‐EM structure of the dopamine transporter with a novel atypical non‐competitive inhibitor bound to the orthosteric site

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 168, Issue 9, Page 2043-2055, September 2024.
Atypical inhibitors of dopamine transporter lack the rewarding effects of psychostimulants and offer a promising strategy for the treatment of drug use disorders. In this study, we present the cryo‐electron microscopy structure of the dopamine transporter at 3.2 Å resolution, in complex with a novel atypical non‐competitive inhibitor, AC‐4‐248 ...

Solute uptake into B. divergens and P. falciparum infected erythrocytes: same theme but different mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Plasmodium falciparum and Babesia divergens are parasites of the same phylogeny apicomplexa and they invade and replicate in the human erythrocytes. Both the parasites differently modify the host cell membrane during and after infection, providing an ...

Unraveling the Electron Transfer in Cupriavidus necator – Insights Into Mediator Reduction Mechanics

open access: yesChemElectroChem, Volume 11, Issue 14, July 15, 2024.
This study investigates mediator interaction mechanisms in Cupriavidus necator within bioelectrochemical systems. C. necator efficiently reduces redox mediators. Cytochrome c oxidase primarily facilitates electron transfer to ferricyanide, with a secondary role proposed for nitrite reductase.
