The effect of sodium chloride on poly-l-glutamate conformation

Chem. Commun., 2009
A large-scale fully-atomistic molecular dynamics simulation of poly-l-glutamate demonstrates that a small amount of sodium chloride switches the preferred conformation from an extended conformation to a compact alpha-helix.

Green synthesis of gold nanoparticles reduced and stabilized by sodium glutamate and sodium dodecyl sulfate

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2017
The Turkevich method has been used for many years in the synthesis of gold nanoparticles. Lately, the use of plant extracts and amino acids has been reported, which is valuable in the field of biotechnology and biomedicine. The AuNPs was synthesized from the reduction of HAuCl4 3H2O by sodium glutamate and stabilized with sodium dodecyl sulfate.

Chronic Rhinitis with Nasal Polyposis Associated with Sodium Glutamate Intolerance

International Archives of Allergy and Immunology, 2007
The study reports a case of perennial rhinitis with bilateral polyposis. A careful diagnostic workup revealed that the disorder was caused by sodium glutamate intolerance. This is the first study showing an association between intolerance to food additives and nasal polyposis.

The Toxic Effect of Sodium L-Glutamate on the Inner Layers of the Retina

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1957
L-Glutamic acid and its sodium salt have been widely used in the oral treatment of petit mal and mental deficiency (e. g., Zimmerman, Burgemeister, and Putnam, 1949; Milliken and Standen, 1951). Single doses of 20-30 gm. have also been administered intravenously without permanent illeffects (Sapirstein, 1943; Elman, 1946; Mayer-Gross and Walker, 1949 ...

Structure and Function of Sodium-coupled GABA and Glutamate Transporters

Journal of Membrane Biology, 2006
Neurotransmitter transporters are key elements in the termination of the synaptic actions of the neurotransmitters. They use the energy stored in the electrochemical ion gradients across the plasma membrane of neurons and glial cells for uphill transport of the transmitters into the cells surrounding the synapse.

Carbamyl glutamate prevents the potentiation of ammonia toxicity by sodium benzoate

European Journal of Pediatrics, 1989
Sodium benzoate has been recommended for the treatment of hyperammonaemia in humans. However, benzoate potentiates ammonia toxicity and reduces urea synthesis in vitro and in vivo by decreasing the intramitochondrial levels of N-acetyl glutamate. Pretreatment of mice with carbamyl glutamate, a structural analogue of N-acetyl glutamate, decreases ...
