Final Report of the Safety Assessment of Hyaluronic Acid, Potassium Hyaluronate, and Sodium Hyaluronate

International Journal of Toxicology, 2009
Hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate, and potassium hyaluronate function in cosmetics as skin conditioning agents at concentrations up to 2%. Hyaluronic acid, primarily obtained from bacterial fermentation and rooster combs, does penetrate to the dermis. Hyaluronic acid was not toxic in a wide range of acute animal toxicity studies, over several species

The Effect of Sodium Hyaluronate on the Outcome of Trabeculectomy

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1991
ABSTRACT The outcome of trabeculectomy with the use of sodium hyaluronate was investigated in 99 trabeculectomies and compared with the results achieved in an earlier series of trabeculectomies without the use of sodium hyaluronate. The use of sodium hyaluronate facilitated performance of the surgery and tended to reduce the severity of ...

Descemet's Membrane Detachment by Sodium Hyaluronate

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1985
The inadvertent injection of sodium hyaluronate (Healon) just anterior to Descemet's membrane during an extracapsular cataract extraction resulted in a corneal opacity. No extraordinary measures were taken to remove this substance. The opacity resolved over five months, with a final visual acuity of 20/25 and a reduction in specular microscopic cell ...

The Place of Sodium Hyaluronate in Glaucoma Surgery

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1986
ABSTRACT The advantages of sodium hyaluronate (Healon™) in filtering surgery have been mostly theoretical, with no study of sufficient numbers to justify its use. The authors used sodium hyaluronate in 119 consecutive trabeculectomies. These were compared to a control group of 122 cases.

Trabeculectomy with the use of sodium hyaluronate

Acta Ophthalmologica, 1986
Abstract The effect of sodium hyaluronate (Healon®) on the post‐operative course and IOP 1 week and 1 month after trabeculectomy is reported. Twenty‐nine eyes of 23 patients with open‐angle glaucoma (10 simple, 11 capsular and 8 secondary glaucoma) were operated with the use of sodium hyaluronate. The study was prospective.

Sodium Hyaluronate (Healon®) in Closed Vitrectomy

Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers and Imaging Retina, 1986
ABSTRACT Healon® was implanted into the vitreous cavity of 33 eyes at the conclusion of pars plana vitrectomy. In aphakic eyes, Healon diffused rapidly into the anterior chamber, reducing the length of effective tamponade posteriorly and causing marked elevations of intraocular pressure.

Postoperative pressures after phacoemulsification: sodium hyaluronate vs. sodium chondroitin sulfate-sodium hyaluronate.

Annals of ophthalmology, 1989
This randomized study of 100 patients compared the effects of two viscoelastic agents on intraocular pressure after phacoemulsification cataract extraction with intraocular lens implantation. In 50 patients, sodium hyaluronate was instilled in the anterior chamber before lens insertion and then evacuated.

[Conductivity of sodium hyaluronate solution].

Nippon Ganka Gakkai zasshi, 1992
In order to elucidate the property of water contained by the stereoic network in the vitreous gel, the conductivity of sodium hyaluronate solutions was measured in various concentrations at 25 degrees C and the relationship between concentrations of sodium hyaluronate and conductivity was evaluated. Each conductivity curve was divided into three stages.
