Impact of Surface Functionalization on NV Quantum Properties: Implications for Biosensing with Fluorescent Nanodiamonds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fluorescent nanodiamonds (fNDs) have emerged as an invaluable quantum sensing platform for biological and biochemical systems. This paper investigates the influence of common surface functionalization strategies for bioconjugation on the quantum properties of nitrogen vacancy (NV) centers in nanodiamonds.

MPI‐Guided Photothermal Therapy of Prostate Cancer Using Stem Cell Delivery of Magnetotheranostic Nanoflowers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Tumor‐tropic human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) were used as delivery vehicles for magnetotheranostic gold–iron oxide nanoflowers. Magnetic particle imaging of the iron component demonstrated widespread intratumoral distribution and sustained retention in contrast to injection of naked nanoflowers.

Iodide Binding in Sodium-Coupled Cotransporters [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Information and Modeling, 2017
Several apical iodide translocation pathways have been proposed for iodide efflux out of thyroid follicular cells, including a pathway mediated by the sodium-coupled monocarboxylate transporter 1 (SMCT1), which remains controversial. Herein, we evaluate structural and functional similarities between SMCT1 and the well-studied sodium-iodide symporter ...

Electrochemical lithium intercalation in nanosized manganese oxides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
X-ray amorphous manganese oxides were prepared by reduction of sodium permanganate by lithium iodide in aqueous medium (MnOx-I) and by decomposition of manganese carbonate at moderate temperature (MnOx-C).

Broadband, Flexible, Skin‐Compatible Carbon Dots/Graphene Photodetectors for Wearable Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Broadband, flexible photodetectors integrating nitrogen‐rich carbon dots with single‐layer graphene on plastic substrates are demonstrated. A biocompatible chitosan–glycerol electrolyte enables efficient low‐voltage gating and on‐skin operation. The devices exhibit ultraviolet‐to‐near‐infrared response, mechanical robustness under bending, and verified

Protocol for the Determination of Total Iodine in Iodized Table Salts Using Ultra-High-Performance Liquid Chromatography

open access: yesChemosensors
Potassium iodate and potassium iodide are commonly fortified in iodized table salt, which must be continuously monitored to maintain quality. Our study reported an optimized detection method for total iodine in iodized table salt using 0.5 M sodium ...

Variable coordination of amine functionalised N-heterocyclic carbene ligands to Ru, Rh and Rr: C-H and N-H activation and catalytic transfer hydrogenation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Chelating amine and amido complexes of late transition metals are highly valuable bifunctional catalysts in organic synthesis, but complexes of bidentate amine–NHC and amido–NHC ligands are scarce.
