Experimental poisoning by Niedenzuella stannea in cattle and corresponding detection of monofluoroacetate

open access: yesCiência Rural
: In Brazil sodium monofluoroacetate (MFA) containing plants are represented by 16 species that belong to three principle genera: Palicourea ( Rubiaceae ), Amorimia ( Malpighiaceae ), and Tanaecium ( Bignoniaceae ).

Did dingo control cause the elimination of kowaris through mesopredator release effects? A response to Wallach and O'Neill (2009)

open access: yesAnimal Biodiversity and Conservation, 2010
Wallach & O'Neill (2009) recently suggested that poison baiting for dingoes (Canis lupus dingo and hybrids) caused the localized extinctions of kowaris (Dasyuroides byrnei) through mesopredator release effects.

Evaluation of resistance to natural poisoning by Amorimia septentrionalis in goats which had received sodium monofluoroacetate degrading bacteria

open access: yesPesquisa Veterinária Brasileira
: Amorimia septentrionalis is an important sodium monofluoroacetate (MFA) containing plant that causes sudden death in ruminants in northeastern Brazil. MFA degrading bacteria are being used in the prevention against poisoning by this plant.

Dog attacks on wild desert tortoises: A risk model

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 4, May 2026.
Domestic dogs attack and severely injure wild desert tortoises at the urban and ex‐urban interface with deserts. Severe trauma to tortoises increased 4 times to shell and limbs and 16.5 times to the gular horn over the decades between the 1970s and 2000s. Tortoises were at exponential risk of severe trauma when living within 12 km of settlements, towns,

What’s the Best Way to Store Toxic 1080 Baits?

open access: yesEcological Management &Restoration, Volume 26, Issue 2, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Being able to store toxic baits could allow livestock producers to target ‘hot spots’ of predator activity, supplementing or even replacing broadscale baiting, therefore avoiding potential risk of bait‐resistant populations. We compared 1080 dose recovered from dried meat baits (DMB; camel, horse and kangaroo) and sausage baits stored by ...

Effect of Sodium Monofluoroacetate on Multiplication of Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis Virus.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1952
SummaryThe reduplication of Eastern equine encephalomyelitis virus in mouse brain is delayed in mice previously treated with sodium monofluoroacetate. This chemical seems to prolong the survival time of the infected animals, although it does not otherwise alter the course of infection.
