Watermasses, currents and tides at the Sofala Bank, November 1987 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The southern part of the Sofala Bank (in Mozambique) was investigated. A net of closely spaced hydrographic stations were obtained and a current meter mooring consisting of two current meters and a bottom pressure recorder was deployed. High salinity shelf water was observed near shore with a maximum salinity above 36.6 ppt.

Research assessment for the management of the industrial shallow-water multi-species shrimp fishery in Sofala Bank in Mozambique

Fisheries Research, 2006
The industrial shallow-water shrimp fishery at Sofala Bank whose annual average catch of 8600 t is valued at about US$ 80 million, is one of the main industries in Mozambique. The shrimps are also fished by an artisanal and semi-industrial fishery.

Variation in shrimp abundance on the Sofala Bank, Mozambique, and its relation to the Zambezi River runoff

Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science, 1992
Variations in the catch of shallow water shrimp at the Sofala Bank, central Mozambique, are considered using abundance indices of Penaeus indicus by length groups. Both monthly, seasonal and year to year fluctuations are presented and related to Zambezi River runoff and rainfall.

A preliminary assessment of the scad and mackerel stocks at Sofala Bank, Mozambique [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Scads (Decapterus russellii, D. macrosoma, Selar crumenophthalmus), Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta) and horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus) are the main pelagic species caught in a bottom trawl fishery at Sofala Bank and at Boa Paz. Information on catch and effort is presented together with available data on distribution, spawning, size at ...

Preliminary investigations on the population dynamics of Otolithes ruber (Sciaenidae) on Sofala Bank, Mozambique [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Catch length-frequency data of Otolithes ruber (Schneider, 1801) obtained from the "Projecto de Pesca Experimental da RDA" on Sofala Bank, Mozambique, in 1987 were used to estimate growth parameters, mortalities and exploitation rates. The yield-and biomass-per-recruit analyses based thereon suggest that the stock is overfished.

Environmental influences on banana shrimps of the Sofala Bank, Mozambique Channel

open access: yes, 2015
The Sofala Bank in the western Mozambique Channel is an essential habitat for shallow-water penaeid shrimps. It supports an important multi-sector and -species fishery, with Fenneropenaeus indicus and Metapenaeus monoceros (banana shrimp) being the two main target species.
