For IT-SOFCs, gas-tight sealing is required between the electrodes and interconnects and between individual cell units to prevent mixing of gas between the anode and the cathode and to provide electrical insulation. Generally, an eligible material should sufficiently seal the adjacent cell components, and more importantly, it should remain stable over ...

Improvement of SOFC Performance Using a Microtubular, Anode-Supported SOFC
Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 2006Tubular solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) have many desirable characteristics over planar SOFCs. In this study, microtubular SOFCs with 1.6-mm diam have been successfully fabricated and tested in the intermediate-temperature region under 600°C. The cell consists of NiO-Gd doped ceria (GDC) as an anode (support tube), GDC as an electrolyte, and (La, Sr)(Fe,

The cathode in SOFCs is the location where oxygen is catalytically reduced to oxygen ions, which plays a key role in converting chemical energy into electrical energy. The sluggish oxygen reduction activity of cathodes at reduced temperatures, i.e., intermediate temperatures, is one of the critical obstacles to achieving IT-SOFCs with high performance.
