SOFC Stacks for Mobile Applications

Materials Science Forum, 2010
Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) are gaining more and more importance as auxiliary power units (APU), e.g. for passenger cars, trucks and airplanes. In this context, the main challenge is the development of SOFC stacks, which fulfill the strong requirements for mobile applications.

Cathodes for IT-SOFCs

2016
The cathode in SOFCs is the location where oxygen is catalytically reduced to oxygen ions, which plays a key role in converting chemical energy into electrical energy. The sluggish oxygen reduction activity of cathodes at reduced temperatures, i.e., intermediate temperatures, is one of the critical obstacles to achieving IT-SOFCs with high performance.

Anodes for IT-SOFCs

2016
This chapter presents a brief introduction to the fundamentals and requirements of anode materials for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). First, the possible coking and sulfur poisoning mechanisms are summarized with evidence from experimental studies and theoretical calculations, and the various types of anode materials are ...

Development of Microtubular SOFCs

Journal of Fuel Cell Science and Technology, 2008
Microtubular solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) have successfully demonstrated their advantages over conventional (planar) SOFCs, such as high thermal stability during rapid heat cycling and large electrode area per volume, which enables one to realize SOFC systems applicable to portable devices and auxiliary power units for automobile.

Modeling and simulation of SOFC using PSCAD

Eurocon 2013, 2013
In recent years, an interest toward fuel cell studies has grown because of increasing energy demand and fuel cells are clean and efficient sources of electricity. In this study, the electrical characteristic of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is analysed. The dynamic model of solid oxide fuel cell is built using PSCAD software.

Large-SOFC, Towards a Large SOFC Power Plant

2009
In 2007 the European Technology Platform for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells established a target for installed fuel cell power capacity of 8-16 GW cumulative in 2020. At present the European industry is developing and delivering 250-500 kW molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) power plants and small residential polymer electrode (PEFC) as well as solid oxide ...

On the Sealing Materials for SOFC

Key Engineering Materials, 2007
Processing of sealing materials is a key technology in planar SOFC. In this paper, compositions of sealing materials were determined and then mixed and milled for 7~8 h. Glass materials were obtained by melt at 1300 ~ 1600°C and quenched in cold water. The powder materials were made by milling and screening.

SOFC Perspectives in Ukraine

2004
The paper gives an idea of the Ukrainian State Program on Fuel Cell technologies under development. It is shown that fuel cells have opportune perspectives based on achievements determining this high technology like nanosized zirconia and other oxide powders, materials for cathode and interconnect, gasification of coal, materials for small turbines etc.
