Rheology and Soft Clay Engineering

1986
The theory of rheology can be used to solve various problems in soft clay engineering. Only by this theory, can the time factor of soft clay be appropriately considered for consolidation and stability. In the first part of this paper, Lee's analogy method is used to solve equations for a plate on visco-elastic foundation as an example.

Field Instrumentation for Soft Clay

1981
This article presents a general review of contemporary instrumentation concepts and procedures as applied to geotechnical engineering projects in soft clay. The need for instrumentation is discussed, and the types of measurements most frequently required as well as the measurement techniques generally employed are pointed out.

Electrokinetic strengthening of soft clay

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Ground Improvement, 2009
The use of electrokinetic treatment to decrease the water content and increase the shear strength, preconsolidation pressure and axial load capacity of a laboratory-prepared soft clay soil was investigated. The tests were carried out in four identical electrokinetic cells. The cell has a volume capacity of 10 litres.

Modelling Soft Clay Behaviour

2011
Since the development of predictive techniques for estimating soil displacements is underpinned by, and critically dependent on, the constitutive models adopted to represent the soil response, it seems only natural to describe some of these fundamental tools that have been used successfully to date for this task.

Stability of an embankment on soft clay

2011
The soils engineer responsible for the adequacy of the design of embankments regularly finds himself confronted with the problem of constructing an embankment upon a foundation consisting of soft, potentially unstable soils. This thesis presents the method used to arrive at a successful solution to this problem and a discussion of the pore pressures ...
