A Topology Optimization Framework for the Inverse Design of Nonlinear Mechanical Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work uses topology optimization to design unit cells for mechanical metamaterials with a prescribed nonlinear stress–strain response. The framework adds contact and postbuckling modeling to synthesize microstructures for three highly nonlinear responses, including pseudoductile behavior, monostable with snap‐through buckling, and bistable ...

Decentralized Financing, Centralized Financing and the Dual Track System: Toward a New Theory of Soft Budget Constraints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
I put forward a new theoretical framework to analyze the relationship between soft budget constraint syndrome and the economic performances of firms. It differs from the existing theoretical framework, à la Dewatripont and Maskin (1995), in the soft ...

All‐in‐One Analog AI Hardware: On‐Chip Training and Inference with Conductive‐Metal‐Oxide/HfOx ReRAM Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐in‐one analog AI accelerator is presented, enabling on‐chip training, weight retention, and long‐term inference acceleration. It leverages a BEOL‐integrated CMO/HfOx ReRAM array with low‐voltage operation (<1.5 V), multi‐bit capability over 32 states, low programming noise (10 nS), and near‐ideal weight transfer.

A Comparison Between Hard- and Soft-Constrained RTK Positioning With Multiple Reference Antennas

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Real-time kinematic (RTK) ambiguity resolution can be improved by engaging multiple reference antennas. The baseline information between the antennas can be taken as true values and used as a hard-constraint; or it can be regarded as weighted, a priori ...

Soft Constraint Propagation and Solving in Constraint Handling Rules [PDF]

open access: yesComputational Intelligence, 2004
Soft constraints are a generalization of classical constraints, which allow for the description of preferences rather than strict requirements. In soft constraints, constraints and partial assignments are given preference or importance levels, and constraints are combined according to combinators which express the desired optimization criteria.

Optimal control of linear, stochastic systems with state and input constraints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In this paper we extend the work presented in our previous papers (2001) where we considered optimal control of a linear, discrete time system subject to input constraints and stochastic disturbances.

3D‐Printed Sulfur‐Derived Polymers With Controlled Architectures for Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Rheology‐guided formulation design for direct ink writing enables the fabrication of 3D sulfur copolymer cathodes with controlled architectures for lithium‐sulfur batteries. The printed electrodes exhibit multiscale porosity and high sulfur utilization, delivering enhanced electrochemical performance compared to conventional cast electrodes.

Propagating Soft Table Constraints [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
WCSP is a framework that has attracted a lot of attention during the last decade. In particular, many filtering approaches have been developed on the concept of equivalence-preserving transformations (cost transfer operations), using the definition of soft local consistencies such as, for example, node consistency, arc consistency, full directional arc

Size, spillovers and soft budget constraints [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Tax and Public Finance, 2008
There is much evidence against the so-called "too big to fail" hypothesis in the case of bailouts to subnational governments. We look at a model where districts of different size provide local public goods with positive spillovers. Matching grants of a central government can induce socially-efficient provision, but districts can still exploit the ...

Region‐to‐Region Unidirectional Connection In Vitro Brain Model for Studying Directional Propagation of Neuropathologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A unidirectional cerebral organoid–organoid neural circuit is established using a microfluidic platform, enabling controlled directional propagation of electrical signals, neuroinflammatory cues, and neurodegenerative disease–related proteins between spatially separated organoids.
