Navigating Classical and Nonclassical Realms of Nucleation and Crystallization

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Classical nucleation and growth theories have long been foundational, yet recent nonclassical concepts have challenged and refined our understanding of solid‐state genesis. This paradigm shift introduced new, often ambiguous vocabulary. Here, we clarify key concepts, correct common misconceptions, and provide a terminological field guide across systems,

Bifunctional Electrocatalysts in Rechargeable Lithium‐Gas Batteries: Material Evolution and Mechanistic Insights from Metal‐Free Carbons to Carbon‐Supported Single‐Atom Sites

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This review charts the material evolution of bifunctional electrocatalysts for rechargeable lithium‐gas batteries. It highlights the journey from heteroatom‐doped, metal‐free carbon architectures to precision‐engineered carbon‐supported single‐atom sites. The discussion focuses on mechanistic insights into how these catalysts govern reversible O2, CO2,

Techno‐Economically Viable, Rapid, and Scalable Sonochemical Synthesis of AgCl Nanocubes for CO2 Electroreduction

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
AgCl nanocubes are synthesized within minutes through a rapid and scalable sonochemical method. Combined with outstanding catalytic performance, the lower production cost demonstrates the overall cost‐effectiveness of AgCl nanocubes for CO2‐to‐CO electroreduction. These results highlight economic viability as a key consideration in catalyst development,

Care Praxis–Driven STEM Design for Sustainable and Just Communities in Middle School

open access: yesJournal of Research in Science Teaching, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Despite the growing interest in incorporating care ethics into STEM education, these topics are rarely integrated into K‐12 standards and pedagogical practice. We explore how care praxis, a political and ethical approach to STEM education, supports students' sense‐making in addressing real‐world problems throughout STEM design, merging social,

Deep blueprint: A literature review and guide to automated image classification for ecologists

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
A practical, literature‐grounded review that gives ecologists a clear, modular workflow for deep learning image classification. With code, GUIs and a novel deep sea case study (automated deep sea biotope classification) it lowers technical barriers and provides a usable blueprint for accelerating, standardising, and scaling ecological image analysis ...

Native habitat affinities predict fish invasions with post‐invasion habitat shifts

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Initial invasion success is gated by native pre‐adaptations, but post‐invasion establishment is characterized by habitat shifts. We demonstrate that forecasting risk based solely on native niches severely underestimates future ecological impacts, and we provide an empirically validated watchlist of future invaders.

New taxa and revisionary systematics of alcyonacean octocorals from the Pacific coast of North America (Cnidaria, Anthozoa)

open access: yesZooKeys, 2013
A taxonomic assessment of four species of octocorals from the northeastern Pacific Ocean (British Columbia to California) is provided. Included here are a new species of clavulariid stolonifieran Cryptophyton, a new species of the nephtheid soft coral ...

300 Years of Degradation in Wales Estuaries and Coasts

open access: yesNatural Resources Forum, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The world's oceans are in a severe state of degradation, yet our understanding of that degradation is often based on changes observed only in the past 20–50 years. This narrow view leads to marine conservation efforts that aim to preserve already degraded ecosystems, shaped by shifted ecological baselines.

From rigidity to collapse in soft coral slumping within the World Heritage coral gardens in Korean waters

open access: yesScientific Reports
Coral communities (i.e., soft and hard corals) in Korean waters persist in temperate coastal environments characterized by strong seasonal variability and episodic hydrographic extremes.

Transcriptomics Unveil Dsx1 as a Critical Regulator in Sexual Dimorphism of Crustaceans

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Sexually dimorphic traits are involved in reproductive competition and are shaped by sex‐biased gene expression. This study identifies Dsx1 as a key male‐biased gene in Morinoia aosen and demonstrates through RNA interference that its disruption feminizes male‐specific T3 leg structures.
