Transparent gel engineering materials for 3D gel printing

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2017
Recently our group developed 3D gel printer named “SWIM-ER” (soft and wet industrial material - easy realizer). Here we aim to improve the gel materials used for SWIM-ER system about the problems around free-shaping, transparency, and mechanical strength.

Coarse-graining dynamics by telescoping down time-scales: comment for Faraday FD144 [PDF]

open access: yesFaraday Discuss., 144, 323 (2010), 2010
I briefly review some concepts related to coarse-graining methods for the dynamics of soft matter systems and argue that such schemes will almost always need to telescope down the physical hierarchy of time-scales to a more compressed, but more computationally manageable, separation.

Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Boost the Public Demand for Soft Matter Education and Career Opportunities with a Homemade Video [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The study aims to promote the awareness and education of soft matter which has become a popular research topic owing to its capability of developing self-assembling materials for numerous industries such as self-healing materials. To pursue after this aim, we composed a homemade video to illustrate the soft matter concepts, followed by distributing a ...

Dosimetric effect of silicone‐based gel on skin surface during volumetric modulated arc therapy for breast cancer

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study aims to quantify and compare the dosimetric effects of varying thicknesses of StrataXRT, a silicone‐based gel, and other topical agents on the skin surface during volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) for breast cancer.

Sequential self-assembly of DNA functionalized droplets

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Natural complex systems are often constructed by sequential assembly but this is not readily available for synthetic systems. Here, the authors program the sequential self-assembly of DNA functionalized emulsions by altering the DNA grafted strands.

Shear banding, aging and noise dynamics in soft glassy materials [PDF]

open access: yesSoft Matter, 2009, 2008
The `soft glassy rheology' (SGR) model gives an appealing account of the flow of nonergodic soft materials in terms of the local yield dynamics of mesoscopic elements. Newtonian, power-law, and yield-stress fluid regimes arise on varying a `noise temperature', x.
